This is a total remake of ATR72 for FSX by Virtualcol, which was released as payware initially. Animations and flight dynamics have been reproduced from scratch, ground interactions have been added, and all the lights have been made working. It can be cosidered a native FS2020 aircraft rather than just a converted model, and no more "_CVT_" folder would be generated. In FS2020, the doors of aircraft need a connection with ground vehicles or jetway to let it open, in the case of ATR the rear exit would be opened at the same time with baggage door upon requesting baggage services from ground frequencies, if there is one.

The old version by him can still be downloaded here in case you need. There are several breaking changes for liveries, but you can convert them using the converter provided in the download page. (NO GUARANTEE for successful conversion). You can still use the paintkit from virtualcol for creating new textures, but the file extensions have been changed from ".dds" to ".png.dds"

For those who have hardware throttle panel installed, you should put the engine switch to "OFF" BEFORE starting simulation to prevent the starter from being unable to switch off, otherwise the battery will be drained off in several minutes. This is a bug of the Kingair panel. It is chosen as the cockpit for the new version over CJ4 because it works better with turboprop aircraft. However, in this moment I should admit that we don't have enough resource and know-how for making a custom cockpit. It is far more complicated than those for FSX or before.

Using the cockpit of KingAir instead of CJ4 is a difficult decision, but CJ4 is just a different kind of aircraft from ATR, and the cockpit of CJ4 have no control on what a turboprop have, such as mixture and propeller pitch control. In terms of visual similarity and complexity, an Airbus cockpit would be more similar to ATR, which ATR is a joint venture that Airbus participates. For a fully functional multi-engine turboprop, KingAir is the only choice for all versions of FS2020.

As MS already announced that there will be a new payware ATR series released next year, so further developments over the functionality of this plane will be ceased. This mod will not be updated anymore unless there are some serious malfunctioning problems occur, which affects most of the players. For those who are not satisfied with this mod (most likely for putting the KingAir cockpit), just wait and pay for it. Support for this mod will also be ceased once the said payware ATR mod is published.

What are the main differences between a converted FSX aircraft and a native FS2020 aircraft? A converted one still use the legacy .MDL format for 3D models and .AIR format for aerodynamics. These formats have been replaced by GLTF for 3D models and those parameters in the .AIR file have been migrated into different CFGs. However FS2020 somehow keeps the backward compatibility for these legacy formats, this is how a converted aircraft works.

    Great.

    Issues i've experienced:
    - Broken flaps in the air. They work on the ground, but when I try to land they are stuck.
    - Aircraft is overly powered. Try full power and release the breaks. It will take off almost like a VTOL.

    Other than that its wonderful!

      Are you trying to extend the flaps over FL200? And also the speed of the aircraft when you try to extend the flaps? In my experience, the aircraft start to build up lifts at about 100kts, where the typical Vr of the aircraft is 117kts.

    Thes planes are weired. They are overpowered, to sensitive and the 500 variante has no cockpit and can't crash after loosing controol.

      I don't know what you mean by the -500 variant. I did made dummy aircrafts in the previous versions and being labeled as the older variants, but they are supposed to be for AI traffic only, and won't be selectable in the user menu.

    L'unica versione che funziona il VR E questa :ATR 72-600-609-1-0-1615703910.zip ma il link è introvabile Io per fortuna L'ho recuperata dal mio cestino perché una volta l'ho installata e poi cancellata ma per fortuna non completamente ancora mille complimenti per il creatore

    For some reason the props are invisible when the sky is behind them. When they are in front of the ground, they show up again... Could you take a look at that for the next update?

    why not try planes like the DHC-6 -TwinItter. It will take years and years before a comersial version of this and and similar aircrafts is ever made for MSFS.

      You may download those liveries for the old version (0.1) originally by Capt22, and then use the converter to convert the liveries to be compatible with my version, except those liveries made by me, which are made for this version. The converter could be found on the download page of this mod.

    Thanks. the converter works just fine, for those downloading textures its important to remember that not all repaints have the required amount of files (example) in the texture folder there should be 12 files 1 cfg, a few thumbnails and the remaining are dds. the converter adds 4 more very important dds files. so after downloading the repaint it pays to check that otherwise it wont work. BTW i think you done well with this ATR mod. dont give up what your doing.

      In normal cases, only those 4 texture files (eng/fuse/fusetail/wings) are needed for a livery mod. For the liveries converted using my converter, the remaining images would be referenced from the ATR mod itself.

      I haven't changed anything about flight dynamics for version 0.6.4. Are you sure you know how to operate the autopilot? Could you describe more precisely on how it failed to work?

      In fact i found a trick to make the autopilot work 100% with v0.6.3.
      I turn the cockpit view to the right a few degrees.
      Therefore all the buttons are operational.
      I did the same with v0.6.4 and it works fine. 😏

      It is the problem of MSFS itself. Some buttons or toggles could only be clicked from a certain angle. The same problem occurs for all other aircraft like C172 or C208. It doesn't mean it failed to work. No need to be angry, get used with it.

    Been using the other version of ATR (Capt22) so far. But this one is far superior, graphics and flight model wise. Thank You for the excellent mod and keep up the good work

    don't download this. all the liveries on this site are made for the other atr. and the converter doesn't work it prevents the cockpit model from spawning.

      Sorry but thats not true. The converter works fine. Converted several liveries. In cases where it really fails simply copy the "model.cfg" from the aircraft's "model.main" over into the livery. Also: some people might be interested in comparing the flight characteristics and don't care much about liveries.
      This is quite obviously a work in progress of a complex plane. Also it is free of charge. So IMHO it deserves our support. There are very few freeware planes out there because it's much more difficult to create them for MSFS than it was for FSX. So lets all support the devs who try to bring us new aircraft.

      You're probably using the old version of the converter. Yes I've found that there was a bug in the initial version of the converter, you may navigate into the model.cfg of your livery, and replace the last line (starting with "interior=xxx" ) with the following, and you'll be OK. No need to call for boycotting, I will be happy to go off this mod when the payware ATR that MS announced is published:

      Thank you, but it seems that we are missing some decent tutorial on how to deal with situations when after using converter, liveries are crashing the sim...
      what exactly should we replace model?? ok but inside livery there is model.main and the original file has only model.... is taht it or anything else need to be replaced in order so the old livery after conversion works!
