#Real-Life United States Exclusive Drag and Drop

City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport (IATA: COS, ICAO: KCOS, FAA LID: COS), known as Colorado Springs Airport, is a city-owned public civil-military airport 6 miles (9.7 km) southeast of downtown Colorado Springs, in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. It is the second busiest commercial service airport in the state after Denver International Airport. Peterson Air Force Base, which is located on the north side of runway 13/31, is a tenant of the airport.

Since this is my hometown airport that could use some better representation in the game, and I wanted to give back to the community, I decided to give it the attention it deserves.


Current Fixes:

  • Fixed Gate Parking at terminal so gates could actually be used
  • Added Lighting to both Commercial and Military Terminals
  • Removed Commercial Parking from Military side of the airport
  • Fixed Taxiway Designators to be accurate to FAA airport diagram
  • Added Parking and Lighting to FedEx Cargo Area along with static assets, more realistic buildings.
  • Redid military hangars, added static assests to be more realistic.
  • Re-did taxiway lighting by hand using SDK lightrows
  • Fixed Terraforming on taxiways
  • Improved main terminal area
  • Added Military Cargo and GA Large parking at Military Terminal on South East side of airport. GA Large is for troop movement on commercial carriers. Seen 777-300's and A350-900's coming in for troops traveling to and from Fort Carson.

To Do:

  • Custom terminal building
  • Improve GA  Area on West Side of Airport
  • More custom building modeling
  • Add static military cargo planes

    * Fixed some terraforming.
    * Fixed duplicate control tower, but had to keep more inaccurate default tower since update something is broken with the SDK.
    * Fixed some taxiway signs.

    * Tried to fix more terraforming on taxiways G & H, so difficult in this hilly of an area
    * Fixed other minor errors I noticed in taxiways and signs

    Re-did taxiway lights by hand around entire airport using LightRows.
    Re-did main terminal area and parking around both Main and Military Terminals.
    Static assets around terminals improved. Parking lots, lighting, other static assets.
    Military Terminal parking in SE corner of airport now has both Military Cargo and GA Large parking (commercial troop transport).
    Added hazmat military cargo parking in middle of airport.

    * Moved gate parking at terminal farther back so planes don't park so close to building.
    * Fixed jetways so they behave better.
    * Added Glide Slope radio towers on 17L/35R & 17R/35L (requires Mikea.at - AssetPack)
    * Added hold short lighting on runways where 35L and 13 intersect
    * Fixed some broken taxiway signs

    Just noticed after latest update the default control tower is back on-top of mine. Will go around the airport later today and try to fix any anomalies I notice, also noticed some new bumps in taxiways 😔

    Something strange. I downloaded this airport (which was beautiful by the way). When I start MSFS, whether I choose AI traffic or live traffic, I see no planes at all on the apron. I downloaded the suggested dependencies and activated them and it made no difference. I tried several other airports and was able to see many other planes present on both AI or live. Any ideas?

    Thanks for creating this airport. Regardless of my traffic issue, it's great!

      Hmm, were you parked near the main terminal? I was flying there the other day testing the 0.4.0 release, and usually there is 2 planes parked at the gates.

      I do want to mess more with gate/parking parameters as I learn the SDK to only allow certain airlines and planes.

      Military parts of airport spawn no planes currently. The cargo area is hit or miss with spawning a plane but usually not cargo.

      I just spawned and there were two aircraft at the gates, and two GA (https://imgur.com/uPWf1wP). You do bring up a good point, I should work on getting the spawning of aircraft to be more realistic.

      I will work on it when I update the west side of the airport where more GA parking will be placed.

      I must apologize because I was apparently in the military area. I haven't seen an airport like this with two distinct sections. I flew the drone over to the main terminal and found the planes. Sorry that you had to go to the trouble to check this out.

    Just a quick update, been working on the airport a bit. Learned about light rows in the SDK for taxiways, so redoing all the taxiway lighting by hand. No more rogue lights!

    Hoping to have it done by this weekend. Also updated the terminal area a bit, and added parking to the military hazmat area.

      I just looked at KAPA, wow does that need a lot of work. I'm currently working on my home town airfield where I grew up in NW New Jersey, N12 (Andover-Aeroflex). Planning on starting KAPA once I finish that project.

    Getting quite a few bumps in the taxiways caused by splits in the terrain it seems. I did M G F E E1 17 and ran into quite a few. Some floating lights on runway 17 as well, otherwise this is looking great.

      Yeah airport has always had terraforming issues, especially on the taxiways. It is the next thing on my list along with trying to clean up more of the rogue lights.

      Thank you! Once I do as much as I can with the base airport in the SDK, going to move on and start learning blender to focus on the buildings. Main terminal is on the list.
