Hello

Another little addon manager. Made to match my own needs and just sharing with the community.

I tried to keep the UI very simple but it should hopefully do the job 'feature-wise'.

- lets you organize your addon freely in folder and subfolders in your folder of choice
- will create links in the community folder. There is no need to move files in and out of the folder.
- very easy to activate/deactivate groups of addons (single click)
- lets you save presets of addons
- lets you rename addons (link will be automatically updated)
- lets you add / update / remove addons

Installation :
- just extract all the files and drop them in a folder of your choice and run the EXE file

usage :
- create a folder where you will put your addons, add your addons in there instead of putting them in the community folder, you can create as many subfolder as you want to organize your files efficiently
- launch the application, in the options screen set your 'addon folder' and your 'community folder'
- just click on the checkbox to activate/deactivate addons
- rest should be fairly easy to understand (little quickstart guide should be coming soon if needed)

notes :
- if it doesn't work please try to set the application to run as admin, if it works but you still get the message at the start, just disable the message in the options screen
-i was made aware that other tools seem to do pretty much the same things but probably with some differences (have not tested them though because i learned about them after mine was released last week), anyway each has probably its own advantage and it's just free and just for fun, so you can freely decide to use mine if you find it useful.

big thanks to the guys in the AVSIM forum that helped me testing the very first versions with feedback and ideas. I will now post it here exclusively making it easier to maintain for eventual updates.

Thank you

  • Version 0.8.7722.27398 February 21, 2021

sorry for another another little needed hotfix, hopefully the last one but if you see bugs i'm obviously always grateful if you report them (can't see and test every possible situations and configurations by myself):

    - FIX : the 'custom addon folders' were not recognized correctly if they contain the '=' character

    - FIX : the 'open' folder option was not working if the folder containing the addon had a <space> in its name

  • Version 0.8.7721.34593 February 20, 2021

little hotfix, thanks to the people who reported the issues and sorry for the tiny update...

    - FIX : the ZIP addon installer was not working since the last version in which i added the RAR installer (ooops 1)

    - FIX : the addon 'link shortcut' was opening the link twice when clicking on it (ooops 2)

    - NEW : added a 'remove folder' option so that they can be removed directly from the tool (note : for 'safety reasons', only empty folders can be removed with this option, so you need to remove eventual addons located in the folder before being able to remove the folder via the tool)

Thank you as always to everyone who has been supporting this little project for months now !

  • Version 0.8.7711.42561 February 11, 2021

Another little update with some general fixes and a few more requests added.

    - NEW : option for automatic detection and correction of problematic Modellib.bgl files. Idea taken from BuffyGC's tool ModelLibChanger with his permission (menu -> Tools -> ModelLib changer). The original tool is here if you prefer that one --> https://flightsim.to/file/5972/modellibchanger

    - NEW : support for RAR files for addons archives

    - NEW : option to prevent the automatic showing of thumbnails when hovering the mouse over the icons (if selected, you can still show the image on demand by clicking on the little image)

    - NEW : option to resize the thumbnail image (in older verions, the resizing was fixed when the image size exceeded 500px. You can now have them bigger if you want (500 was a bit small for some large screens). Note : the resizing will only occur if the original size of the thumbnail is bigger than the limit (no enlarging is done)

    - NEW : right click menu in the community folder list will show the size of addons currently present in the folder

    - NEW : option to move files from the community folder to one of your custom folders (and the opposite way too)

    - IMPROVED : no more need to have to go to the right click menu to add a description or an URL to an addon, a little button is present directly in the field

    - FIX : some columns were very small by default and were not auto-resized when double clicking on their edge (annoying bug that was introduced in v.0.6 but i didn't notice until now because i had saved a custom view, sorry for that)

    - FIX : several other little fixes here and there

i wanted to add the requested 'dependencies' function to have some addons activated automatically when another one is activated (useful for libraries) but it turned out to be more difficult to do than i first thought. Hopefully i'll find a way to do that in next major version (0.9) which will hopefully also include some sort of map (requested several times).

There are some new files in the package, so make sure you replace all files and not only the EXE.

  • Version 0.8.7693.553 January 23, 2021

not really a new version, this is just a quick HOTFIX taking care of an issue that could prevent new users to configure the tool (message about 'tags.bin' file missing, sorry for that it was really a stupid mistake)

    - FIXED : some users experienced an error about a missing tags.bin file when setting the initial parameters.
    - FIXED : the setting of a custom 'description' was not saved properly in the previous version.

Absolutely fantastic! Essential for a perfect organization. Very convenient and so easy to use. Definitively my favorite tool for MSFS2020! Thank you very much for providing such add-on to the community.

This is an excellent app which makes life so much easier with the sim. I would like to send you a donation through PayPal but I am unable to find a ‘button’ to do this.

This is a superb Utility by the creator that makes managing your Community folder an absolute breeze, modders and creators like this are so essential to flight sims and the fun we have playing them, well done to you for creating a fantastic addon.

    I have a question please.
The comminity folder is sorted, what about the 'Official' Folder, is there anyway we can use MSFS Addons Linker to manage this?
example: Purchased through the in sim market place I have Purchased a USA airport and a Euopean airport, say i'm flying in Europe, is there a way to create symbolic links to the 'Official' folder?
now that would be amazing at fast starting the sim?

    Regards
    Jay

hello, thank you for your very nice comment.
Yes there is an option in the options screen (advanced tab) where you can set your official folder and specify a custom folder when the official addons will be stored. If you do that, you will see that custom folder appear on the left panel and when you enable an addon placed in there, its link will be created in the official folder. Feel free to let me know if this little explanation is not clear enough or if you need more help with this feature (only limitation would be maybe if the files are somewhat encrypted in your official folder and would not work when you move them).

Excellent add-on. Is there a way to easily add new airplanes or liveries to all presets that one have defined? I did not fins a way so I had to edit all my presets separately when I downloaded a new airplane...

thank you for the feedback. Not it's not possible to add an addon to all presets for now, I didn't think about that but yeah it could be an idea for a futre version.
In your particular case, i wonder if it would be the best solution though, maybe it would be better to have separate presets for addons and for planes. Then, you can apply multiple presets at once (or use the 'apply cumulative' button) so that that you can mix addons saved in different presets together. Well yeah, probably still not 100% optimal, there's certainly some things that could be improved in the presets management, i need to think about it.

Ok, yes - I didn't notice that cumulative button... I'll try that! Thanks!

Absolutely required for anyone who wants to have a sizable mods library. As your Community folder grows, loading into the game becomes slower and slower as the game engine goes through all the mods you own, even if you're not planning on flying anywhere near them this time you're starting the sim. This allows you to keep all your mods somewhere else and create Presets of sets of mods that can in one click be enabled and disabled. I now group my mods by Continent>Country>City/Region and simply open the program and load the preset I've created for the areas I'm planning on flying through. This means that the sim itself will only "see" the mods you're actually going to want loaded that session, meaning you can have hundreds of GBs of mods without any slow loading. Genius.

I have recently experienced an issue, suddenly, for unknow reasons all the folders I had created have disappeared, that is, the folders are no longer able to be opened and just appear as a single clickable option. So for instance, where I had a folder called GB and inside had all my different scenery for Great Britain, now I cannot select an individual scene within, as it is not opening as a folder...Does this make sense?

hello, from what you are describing, it seems like your folder contains a manifest.json files in it, if it does, it will be recognized as an addon and not as a folder containing other addons (so it will have the red/green checkbox). I will send you a private msg so we can debug this further if needed.

Yes that was the issue. There were miscellaneous .json files in my main folder. Removing them has solved the problem. Many thanks!

My brother is skeptical (doesn't listen to me...I find this program to be excellent.) He can't figure out how to use it and thinks that the version must be a beta (which means bad to him) because it is 0.3 something not even a 1.0 yet. What can I tell him?

Lol, maybe tell him 0,8.xxxxxxxx is a smart number, and betas will have a 'b' at the end, "so it aint a beta bro"

hahah yeah, i don't think brothers will ever listan ;) .. anyway it shouldn't be too hard to use and obviously he can always ask if he has any questions. And thank you for your feedback.

Thank you so much for this Product. I updated to the latest version. I now have the same problem as others "could not read manifest.json file" . I have 281 invisible links. I loaded a few new ones in and they show up as acceptable links. I understand that some moved all the community folder files to a new temporary folder however I can't even do that since it appears not to be a complete file. Likely just the name of the link and not the file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hello, first idea is to make sure you run the tool as admin (maybe if you updated and you had set the 'run as admin' on the EXE it was lost with the updated new EXE). 'Inv' mean 'invalid links', you can delete them on the left side with the option 'right click - delete all invalid links'. It's a bit complicated without knowing exactly in which situation you are in, i will send you a private msg so you will to reply there if you need more help.

This is an excellent tool but did one of the recent updates break it? Anytime I try to run it now it shows up on the bottom taskbar but isn't actually running. Then when I go to click on the icon in the taskbar it closes the program automatically. Is this a known issue?

  • image
    bad2000 replied Author

hello, no it's not a known issue, seems weird. First thing can you maybe try to delete the following 3 lines in your INI file (C:\ProgramData\MSFS Addons Linker\MSFS_Addons_Linker.ini)
    Window_Position=xxxx
    Window_Splitter_Pos=xxx
    Window_Splitter_PosH=xxx
Just delete those 3 lines (when the program is closed) and then restart the program. That should restore the screen to it's original size. Now if it closes when you click on it, it would be a different problem. I will send you a private msg so we can debug further there if needed.

FYI - I had the same issue when I 'tidied up' some folders and changed around my display settings (reassigned which monitor was the main display). I could see AddonLinker as open on the task bar but not the app itself. Editing the ini file as you described above has sorted it. Many thanks for a great utility and for your continued support

yep thanks for the input RedDragonCym, he had the same prob. The tool saves the position of its windows when it closes, but then, if there are some monitor settings changes it can happen that it is restored outside of the boundaries of the monitor so you won't see the screen. Easy to fix but yeah a bit annoying :)

This tool is absolutely essential! My community folder was beginning to get so messy that it became a nightmare keeping all my mods/addons up to date after any new releases. And if any particular mod was causing issues it was really difficult to isolate the problem. msfs-addons-linker solved the problem! Love it! Thank you so much for this tool!
