This is a repaint for the Flight Replicas Spitfire Mk.V as Mk.VB JL244 during service with the Free French GC II/7 between March and June 1943. This unit was attached to 345 Wing of the Mediterranean Allied Coastal Air Force.
I cannot find a single photo of this aircraft, and no two references agree on the camouflage pattern, colours, markings, or even the exact Mark of Spitfire. So, free to speculate, my version is a Mk.VB Tropical with standard RAF A-pattern midwar desert camouflage of mid-stone over dark earth, with azure blue undersides.
Atop the wings smaller French roundels have been added over hastily-covered RAF markings, and you can most definitely see the join. Likewise on the fin, where the RAF flash gives way to the rather magnificant red white & blue rudder.
JL244 went on to serve with the USAAF and survived the war, to be struck off charge on 14th March 1946.
