ATC Phraseology Simplified - Image 1

    Description

Simplified many messages from ATC to make for less verbose and shorter messages, especially useful when using real traffic.

This is not intended to be a full ICAO phraseology mod with 100% realism, the objective is to reduce the excessive verbosity of MSFS ATC (and do some corrections here and there)

    Differences:

    • no more "request to start/stop pushback" on ground
    • no more "via taxiway echo one, alpha two, delta eleven, cross runway, juliet 5, jump to the left, exit the roundabout", you (and AI) will just get a "taxi to runway $someRunway"
    • shorten ATC messages like "easyjet three two is passing $someAltitude, climbing $someOtherAltitude", now it is just "easyjet three two climbing $someAltitude"
    • simplify those "vueling seven three eight you are someMiles from someAirport, northeast, expect vector etcetc etc", now there will be only the final vector and assigned approach
    • simplify traffic messages like "lufthansa seven six, traffic is type $someType three o'clock, 9 miles at 30000ft, report them in sight", now it is just "traffic three o'clock, 9 miles at 30000ft, report visual"
    • cleaned menu of "request takeoff VFR" for those who don't file plans through msfs but still want some interaction with ATC, not fun to have a liner request VFR departure from a major airport :)
    • simplified those "$somePlane radar contact, 20 miles east of $somePlace at $someAltitude", ATC will just say "$somePlane identified".
    • silence forever those annoying "$somePlane you are three hundred above your assigned altitude, descend and maintain $someThingElse"
    • silence forever those annoying "goooood daaaaaaay"

    INSTALL

Make a backup copy of \Official\OneStore\fs-base\en-US.locPak.

    MAKE THE BACKUP

    THEN

    MAKE THE BACKUP

    Then

Overwrite en-US.locPak with the one provided in this download.

    How does it work

    For example, a sequence:

    "$towerSomeAirport, $callsign requesting pushback"

    "$callsign, request accepted"

"$towerSomeAirport, $callsign, requesting the end of pushback"

"$callsign, request to end pushback received"

For all those four messages, for each plane, there will be complete silent now (at last!), however do keep in mind that MSFS will anyway try to transmit so you will still be unable to transmit when AI tries to open comms, luckily now it will take less than one second to get a free "slot" to transmit. That's standard MSFS behaviour that will not change even removing messages completely.

But this simple change reduces by a great deal the unnecessary verbosity in MSFS ATC.

I love it! It makes my comms much more realistic and less distracting. Working well with SU14!

You know that this doesn't work right? You would need to update your MOD every time Asobo changes the locPak file with each and every update. You can't use this locPak file for SU14 for example. The right way forward would be a PowerShell script (or similar) which looks up strings of text and then replaces them. You still need to check if Asobo made changes to parts of the locPak file which you want to modify, this doesn't happen very often though. There are tools online to compare json files so this is a relatively quick and simple task.

    I'm using it right now.
text comparison is a powerful tool without any overengineering with powershell etc.
when it will break, it will break and possibly be updated.

Exactly, it will "possibly" be updated. Maybe SU14 didn't have much if any changes in the locPak file, but usually these kind of mods will break each and every update. With an installer you can run it, it will overwrite certain parts only and good to go. In this case manual labor is required every update to modify the locPak and then upload it, some people might not understand how any of this works and will use a locPak file incompatible with their game version, besides I'm not sure it is legal to distribute original game files.

Man, just ignore the mod and go about your way. It is the same story for most add-ons, they require maintenance because new versions of the sim will without fail break a lot of mods. Way she goes.

there is already a placeholder in the original file, msfs seems not to be using it.
    search for TWR_ADD_WAKE_TURBULENCE.
perhaps for a future update of the game, if the placeholder is there but the game is not using it there's nothing I can do ;)
