PMDG 737 - Wing Flex Mod (Experimental) - Image 1

    Description

    PMDG Simulations 737

This mod currently only improves the animation frames on the 737 wingflex right now, does not alter the range or reactivity of the during rough air conditions.

    This mod is currently experimental!

    Installation:

Select any of the pmdg-aircraft-73(s)-WFM or all and drag them into your MSFS Community folder.

    Captains,

While this mod in theory only changes the animation frames for the wing flex (the only real change it makes is changing the lag values from 500 to 300 in the behaviours folder for each body type), in practice, this actually decreases the reactivity of the wing to aircraft movement and turbulence. The change in the lag values no longer make the wing "bounce" realistically at the right frequencies and reactivities when encountering turbulence, as those of us who have flown on 737NGs would have observed.

I will raise a ticket to the PMDG team in due course to enquire about whether it is possible to *only* change the frame rate of the wing animation while keeping the frequency and reactivity exactly the same. I rather suspect the answer is no.

The reason why the wing flex you observe in say the Fenix A320 and Asobo 787 is much smoother, is because they've compromised and reduced the reactivity of these wings, so they oscillate at much lower frequencies. Have a look at the Fenix A320's wings in turbulent conditions. They simply do not exhibit the same characteristics as their real-world counterparts do. While the animations are smooth, unfortunately they lack in the frequency and reactivity department.

Let us hope MSFS 2024 will bring more tools for our developers to accurately tune and implement realistic wing flex.

thanks for your explanation! very interesting

Nice clarification! I doubt they'll fix that. It's PMDG after all. Don't ever think about posting this in AVsim or their forum. They're gonna mock you for doing so.

thank you very much for this mod! it works good, would be even better if you could improve the winflex on the ground during taxi!! thanks again

This is a great addon and makes the wings flex look realistic. cant wait to see more updates for this!

Hello! seemse like this cause crash on my system after last MSFS update, i removed from community folder and it work fine now, can you look in to it ? :D

This is not the cause of your crash most likely. SU15 beta is prone to CTDs.

yes sim update 15 was one of the cause i went back to 14 but still crashes... i have reinstall whole pmdg and just add 1 livery to it + the mod

Do I place "pmdg-aircraft-73(s)-WFM" in my main community folder or do I overwrite the files inside each 737 Variant?

You can use either the following or place all of them into your community:
    -pmdg-aircraft-736-WFM
    -pmdg-aircraft-737-WFM
    -pmdg-aircraft-738-WFM
    -pmdg-aircraft-739-WFM

If you only have the 800 varient, then use '737-WFM.'

Thanks for your work ! So if I understand well: if I have the 737-800 version, I simply choose the 737-800 folder and drag it into my community folder and it’s done ?

"This mod currently only improves the animation frames on the 737 wingflex right now, does not alter the range or reactivity of the during rough air conditions." The range wont change right now, maybe in the fututre tho if he updates it

Hey! Just curious, but will u be making this like u did the Fenix where u add more motion to the wing flex? Imo u did good fixing the frames but the movement is so bad by PMDG :skull:

I would love to see an overall wing flex mod in the future sometime, more range of motion as well as more frequent bouncing while taxiing, turbulence and landing animations.
