YMTG Mount Gambier Airport, Mount Gambier, South Australia - Image 1

    Description

YMTG Airport is my second project Region Airport for South Australia has taken 12 months to build and design, All Buildings and Objects have been hand-crafted using Blender, This scenery has been made for MSFS 2020 only. The Features of this airport include a highly detailed Terminal that includes the upgrade expansion and runway extensions completed in 2021 costing 9.2M AUD.

This Scenery includes my first trial of 3 Animated Hangars, RFDS, Old De Bruin, and GA, that are triggered on proximity approach or spawn inside the hangar and doors will open and close automatically,

Scenery includes a future upgrade to the airport for hangars and helicopters that is yet to be built but is part of the master plan for an upgrade of the airport, The terminal externals and internals have been created using very limited images from many web sources so they may not be 100% the same as real-world airport detail,

Airport Infomation ( Airport History sourced from Wikipedia )

YMTG Airport (IATA: MGB, ICAO: YMTG) is located on the Riddoch Highway in Wandilo, about 5 nautical miles (9.3 km; 5.8 mi) north of Mount Gambier. It is the only commercial airport servicing the Limestone Coast region of South Australia.

As of March 2021, the airport is served by both QantasLink and Rex Airlines, with multiple daily flights to Adelaide and Melbourne.

The aerodrome officially opened on 21 May 1930, July 1939, the Federal Government purchased the aerodrome from its civilian owners and commenced the construction of a Royal Australian Air Force base which was to house the No. 2 Air Observers School (2AOS). It was officially formed on 6 February 1941 and the first intake of trainees began on 6 March 1941.

On 29 May 1947, the airport was handed over to the Department of Civil Aviation and this saw the return of regular public transport flights to the region with Ansett Airways announcing that a daily service would operate between Mount Gambier and Melbourne. In July 1947, the Mount Gambier Gliding Club was formed and over the next 40 years, the airport continued to prosper as a critical port for flights from Adelaide and Melbourne.

In 2011, it was announced that Mount Gambier Airport would be upgraded under a $3.4 million program. This project was partly funded by the Government of South Australia who awarded a $500,000 infrastructure grant with the balance coming from the airport's reserve fund. The upgrade, part of a 15-year redevelopment plan, will strengthen the main runway, aprons, and taxiways, to enable larger aircraft to operate to the airport and help increase the area's tourism appeal.

A further more substantial upgrade was unveiled in July 2019 which included the replacement of the existing terminal with a new modern and larger facility, with the ability to implement future security screening. Construction commenced in November 2019 and was completed in early 2021. The $9.2M upgrade project was jointly funded by the Australian Government through the Building Better Regions Fund in partnership with the South Australian State Government. The City of Mount Gambier also supported the Airport upgrade with a financial contribution.

As well as the new $6.2m terminal, the upgrade also includes an extension of 120 meters to the main runway to service larger aircraft, a brand new heavy aircraft apron to house a larger contingent of fire bombers and other heavy aircraft and the entire airport precinct has had a full electrical upgrade from the previous 1950's system.

Thank you for your feedback and donation, much appreciated :) my current releases will be updated when required, even to be made available for msfs2024 pending sdk, I may be doing another YPLC (Port Lincoln) but have not committed to it yet, no time frame it is pending on research material to get current layouts,

Looks really cool though do I have to say that it takes a very heavy hit on framerate. Generated more lag than alot of payware international airports with lots of aircraft.

Thank you for your feedback, but from my designing/building and testing on my 4yo system Ryzen 7 3700x with an RTX 2070 super with dx12 enabled, I found frame my rate is 48fps+ on par or higher fps than payware airports running on my system, I will look into more improving fps but unfortunately not any time soon due to family life commitments.

All good I understand! For context I'm running a 3060 Ti paired with a i7 9700. Though an important note is that I run triple display cockpit. For more context, at Impulse Simulation's YPAD scenery, I sustain around 30-35fps but with YMTG fps dropped to/below 20fps :-)
