Description
This document is a simplified and beginner-friendly guide to help new pilots get started on VATSIM. This version is a compressed and simplified version to fit to A5 (or A4 landscape if two pages per sheet)
Print out the PDF, grab a pencil or erasable pen, and fill it in as you set up your MCDU. While this isn't a strict script (mainly due to regional differences and controller preferences), it’s designed to support your phraseology and boost your confidence on frequency.
This guide focuses on IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) procedures.
If you are uncertain about some blanks, I have created a "Demo Version" where there is a short flight provided to give you an idea - do not use this for a real flight as some details change!

- Remove the "friendly" bits. You don't need to say hello every time, especially if the frequency is busy.
- In the Readback, where you've put *SET NOW* please can you put *CHECK INITIAL CLIMB* in the SID box (also it's squaWk)
- In the Ground/Taxi Request/Taxi Reply section, please include something like *FIRST INSTRUCTION MIGHT BE AN INTERMEDITE HOLD POINT OR SHORT OF A DIFFERENT RUNWAY*
- In Arrival, please include *CHECK IF YOU NEED TO HOLD IF ATC DOESN'T CLEAR YOU ONWARD*
Otherwise, I think it's spot on and covers everything I'd expect pilots to be saying/doing :)
