I get it, I really do. You have to make the site profitable (or at least break even). But this new initiative of forcing users to watch a pop-up commercial before being allowed to access or even VIEW the site is incredibly intrusive and annoying.

If I access the site from a different device I have to watch an ad again, so it’s not just ‘one a day’ as advertised, even if I’m logged in to the same account. And it’s not just that it’s “one ad”, there are HUNDREDS of ads across the site. I get pop up videos on the sides of the page, banners across the top and the bottom, and pop ups when navigating between pages. All of those are fine. But this thing of forcing us to watch a video to keep using the site is a step too far, and severely detracts from the usability of the site and will affect the likelihood of me using it as often as I do.

I get that you have to raise revenue, but please for the love of god do it any other way than this.

Thanks for your feedback. The ad is designed to show a single short ad only after a certain amount of browsing activity. Once completed, you won't see it again for another 24 hours. The cross-device issue you mentioned is a technical limitation, currently, there is no option to sync this accross devices, but we'll look into improving that.

I think there has been a misconfiguration on our end causing you to see the ad immediately on the first visit. That's not how it's supposed to work, and it should be fixed now. If you're still seeing it too early, please let us know.

We're not trying to make the site frustrating to use, quite the opposite, but we have to find the right balance between hosting free content and operational viability. Feedback like this is exactly how we find the right balance. At the moment, we believe that one short ad a day to keep everything free seems like a fair trade, as long as it does not disrupt the browsing experience as you described.

Thank you again for being honest about your experience.

Thank you for that very thoughtful response. At the moment I’m seeing it usually when first navigating to the site, and I’m seeing it several times a day, making the “once a day” claim feel somewhat hollow. Fill the entirety of the page with a million ads if need be! But forcing me to watch an ad (usually for something I already buy) whilst preventing me from clicking on anything on the entire site or navigating to specific area feels incredibly disruptive and does make the site frustrating to use in the extreme.

I can't agree more with VH_EAA original concerns. You already have multiple adds that interfere with the viewing on the site. Now you add another restriction. Today it is only one time for a 15 seconds, next it will be two times for 30 seconds. I've seen it over and over again. You really need to find a better way to meet your needs in a way that can both satisfy your costs and site useability's.

The amendment to the system isn’t working, I’m still being forced to watch the ad on my first visit to the site. It’s incredibly frustrating.

What it will actually result in is people using the site less, so fewer eyes on ads. Rather than scrolling through and exploring it’ll be a “get in, get out” approach. Check for updates and zip away. Less traffic, and presumably less ad revenue for the site.

Please guys, your users deserve better.

Can I just add that if the Premium price wasn't so high I'd consider paying an annual fee, but $100+ PA to be able to get free content is too much. maybe if it was lower more would sign up? just a thought

I have also noticed that if you open multiple windows without first viewing the first opened window prior to opening the others, the intrusive add shows on each of the opened windowed sites. More people need to complain about this intrusion or these concerns will fall by the wayside. This site just is not that important to have to be force fed this tactic. And Yes the cost for the premium subscription is outrages. Sites like this used to be for the shear enjoyment of seeing what developers could create and share with everyone for the love of the sim. But like most everything it has just become a money grab for everyone.

It's now back when I first log on to this website at the start of a day. I take it that's not by design?

I've watched about a dozen ads so far today (it's never been less than half a dozen). I've tried tapping my heels together 3 times, is there some spell I'm supposed to recite too? Enjoy your extra ad revenue for the couple of weeks it takes to drive visitor numbers to zero. I may come back in a few weeks to see if you're still around, but for now I'm done here.

Credit where it's due. I've downloaded a few files today without seeing the dreaded ad box at all. For the record, I'm fine with one ad per day, I'm fine with it being first thing every day, but it's been like one of those eternal captcha things for me where you KNOW you got it 'right', but you just get another one anyway. If it's been fixed, or removed until it can be fixed, thank you.
