I can't edit my upload because it's telling me the icao identifier must be 4 characters.

I tried to edit my upload for 2B2 Plum Island. It gave me an error that the ICAO identifier must be 4 characters. This airport doesn't have an official ICAO identifier. It does have an official FAA code: 2B2. It's identified by 2B2 in all documentation. I can't edit my upload because your rules force it to be 4 characters. You didn't have this restriction in the past. I assume the field is to let people search for airports by their official identifier. The official identifier for this airport is 2B2.

How do I get around this? I want to let people know the airport works in 2024.

I imagine other people have pointed this out as there are many 3 character airports in the US, but I couldn't find a search facility for the forums. Sorry if this is a duplicate request.

I understand you're trying to help avoid errors, but, sometimes there can be too much help.

It seems like you're killing the search field by restricting it to the ICAO code since so many airports in the U.S. (and Europe?) don't have an official ICAO code? Shouldn't this be FAA/ICAO/??? code? Why force it to be restricted to 4 characters? What purpose is the field for if it's strictly for airports with an ICAO code?

    https://www.reddit.com/r/flying/s/LUsryGXIYR A little more information... Of the 20,000 airports in the U.S., 17,000 don't have IATA/ICAO identifiers.

All active airports and heliports have FAA LID's. Or is that field meant only for European airports?
