Kiebitz Rotax Engine - Image 2

    Description

Here is a new version of the Kiebitz, this time equipped with a Rotax engine.
The Platzer Kiebitz is an ultralight, single-engine, two-seat, tandem biplane, amateur-built. Michael Platzer designed it and sells the plans.
Its construction uses aluminum tubing for the fuselage and wood for the wing ribs. The entire aircraft is covered in fabric.
This model was created in Blender using the MSFS 2020 SDK. It is fully animated, and the main cockpit controls are functional.
The flight model was developed with the help of the actual Kiebitz pilot.
A checklist is available in MSFS; for cold starts, Ctrl+E does not work, you must follow the checklist.
A paint kit folder, containing the main textures in .psd format, will allow you to customize your aircraft.
You will find more information about the Kiebitz in the documentation folder.

    Good flights

    Bons vols

Hi Oldpat. Whenever I start my Kiebitz, the engine covers rise up and stay up. I can't find a button, knob, or lever to drop them again. Guidance?

    Hello.
The engine cowlings open and close using the control normally assigned to the airbrakes (spoiler)

Check that this control doesn't have a dual function, as was the case in ChrisPiavaition's message below.

    I hope this helps.
    Happy flying.

Thanks for the Rotax Version of the Kiebitz. A few things: The fuel consumption feels a little high, a bit less would be more realistic in my opinion. When on the ground, applying throttle opens the cowling doors (see screenshot). As soon as the aircraft leaves the ground they close again. What could be the issue with that?

    Hello,
Regarding fuel consumption, could you tell me the actual consumption of this type of Keibitz?

Alternatively, I can decrease the fuel flow in the config file, but by how much?
The engine cowlings open and close with the command normally assigned by default to the spoilers (HANDLING_Handle_Air_Brake_1), the S key on my keyboard, and are not affected by the throttle. Check your control assignments. Perhaps the throttle is also assigned to the spoilers?

I hope this helps. Thank you for downloading the Rotax Kiebitz and happy flying.

Yeah, you are right. My throttle was set for the spoilers. I've set the fuel flow scalar to 0.72 and done some traffic patterns. Fuel consumption appears to be more realistic in my opinion, but that's just fine-tuning from there. Another "issue": During flare, at around 70-75kph, the nose of the kiebitz drops down quite abruptly. Not sure if that's intendend and realistic, but maybe a little less "drop down" would be better. All in all I really enjoy your aircraft. Thanks for your work!

    Thank you for your reply.
I have indeed noticed this dipping issue at low speeds, and I've been trying to fix it without success so far. I'll post an updated version as soon as I find a solution.

Fantastic plane! It's amazing what you get with this add-on. I've paid for aircraft with much less quality. Well done!
