Mississippi - adventure and history
 

From the Gulf of Mexico, we travel northward in 20 stages, over 1,400 NM, to Lake Itasca in northern Minnesota, from which the Mississippi River rises.

Hardly any other river in the United States is as steeped in history as the Mississippi. Indians settled the banks of the river thousands of years ago, before French pioneers settled there in the early 18th century.

Soon the Mississippi River's soil was soaked with blood, as wars ensued between whites and Native Americans, in the Seven Years' War with the British, in the so-called War of Independence, which turned the Mississippi into a Spanish river, and, last but not least, in the Civil War between Confederate and Union troops.

Finally, it was British, French, Spanish and African American influences that shaped the lower Mississippi region and French, British, Irish, Italian and German influences that shape the upper Mississippi region to this day. And it was always the great river that gave this land its typical face. This was never an ideal world - but it is an unmistakable piece of American history.

There is music in the Mississippi. In the southern states we encounter African-American sounds like soul and blues, and further north, rock 'n roll. The King of Rock 'n Roll, Elvis Presley, will meet us in Memphis. However, you will have to make your own music for the flights.

But we will also meet other personalities, such as the aviation pioneer Charles Lindbergh, in Little Falls, the famous book author Mark Twain, in Hannibal, General Grant, in Vicksburg or the great Indian chiefs Black Hawk and Keokuk. You will experience during the flights by which diverse nations and cultures this country was shaped but also what happened to its native inhabitants. All this is history and many stories are entwined around it.

Sometimes it is good to look back to be able to look forward again.

Installation:

Unzip the included folder from the package to the community folder. Restart the simulator.

Specification:

• You are flying a Cessna 172 Skyhawk. The aircraft is interchangeable with some manual work (see here). Alternatively, there is also the MissionChanger from BuffyGC.
• The package is multilingual in the languages: English US, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese BR, Portuguese, Russian, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish. The basic language is German. The other languages are machine translated, so there may be errors in the translation. If you have a better translation, please send it to me.
• At each waypoint there are instructions in English from the artificial voice output when you fly over the corresponding waypoint. However, all instructions can be read in the NavLog. If you do not hit the waypoint, this has no further effect. The only important thing is that you land at the right airport.
• IMPORTANT: Some airfields do not recognize the end of a leg. However, it usually works if you return to the main menu after each leg and then start the next leg.
  
• The GPS is not usable but the river is relatively easy to follow. If this is too difficult for you, you can switch on “route and waypoints” in the options. Other functions are also unlocked that allow you to customize the flight experience.
• The weather is freely selectable. Live weather is preset.
• The trip is only finished when engine and electrics are switched off and the handbrake is applied. Roll to a parking lot to do this.
• A LNMPLN file for Little Navmap is included in the package.

Mississippi - Abenteuer und Geschichte
 

Vom Golf von Mexiko geht es in 20 Etappen, über 1.400 NM, nordwärts bis zum Lake Itasca im nördlichen Minnesota, aus dem der Mississippi entspringt.

Kaum ein zweiter Fluss der Vereinigten Staaten ist so geschichtsträchtig wie der Mississippi. Indianer besiedelten die Ufer des Flusses bereits vor Jahrtausenden, ehe Anfang des 18. Jahrhunderts französische Pioniere dort sesshaft wurden.

Schon bald war der Boden am Mississippi mit Blut getränkt, denn es folgten Kriege der Weißen gegen die indianischen Ureinwohner, im Siebenjährigen Krieg mit den Briten, im sogenannten Unabhängigkeitskrieg, der den Mississippi zu einem spanischen Fluss werden ließ und nicht zuletzt im Bürgerkrieg zwischen den Truppen der Konföderation und denen der Union.

Schließlich waren es britische, französische, spanische und afroamerikanische Einflüsse, die die Region am unteren Mississippi und französische, britische, irische, italienische und deutsche Einflüsse, die die Region am oberen Mississippi bis heute prägen. Und immer war es der große Strom, der diesem Land sein typisches Gesicht verlieh. Dies war nie eine heile Welt – aber ist ein unverwechselbares Stück amerikanischer Geschichte.

Im Mississippi liegt Musik. In den Südstaaten begegnen uns afroamerikanische Klänge wie Soul und Blues und weiter nördlich der Rock ‘n Roll. Der King of Rock ‘n Roll, Elvis Presley, wird uns in Memphis begegnen. Allerdings musst du dir die Musik zu den Flügen selber machen.

Aber auch andere Persönlichkeiten werden uns begegnen, wie z.B. der Flugpionier Charles Lindbergh, in Little Falls, der berühmte Buchautor Mark Twain, in Hannibal, General Grant, in Vicksburg oder die großen Indianerhäuptlinge Black Hawk und Keokuk. Du wirst bei den Flügen erleben, durch welche vielfältigen Nationen und Kulturen dieses Land geprägt wurde aber auch, was mit seinen Ureinwohnern geschehen ist. Alles das ist Geschichte und viele Geschichten ranken sich darum.

Manchmal ist es gut zurückzuschauen, um wieder nach vorne blicken zu können.

Installation:

Entpacke den enthaltenen Ordner aus dem Paket in den Community-Ordner. Starte den Simulator neu.

Spezifikation:

Die grundlegende Sprache ist deutsch. Die anderen Sprachen sind maschinell übersetzt, darum können Fehler in der Übersetzung enthalten sein. Wer eine bessere Übersetzung hat, kann sie mir bitte schicken.
• An jedem Wegpunkt gibt es Anweisungen in Englisch aus der künstlichen Sprachausgabe, wenn man den entsprechenden Wegpunkt überfliegt. Alle Anweisungen sind aber im NavLog nachlesbar. Trifft man den Wegpunkt nicht, hat das aber keine weiteren Auswirkungen. Wichtig ist nur, dass man auf dem richtigen Flughafen landet.
• WICHTIG: Einige Flugplätze erkennen nicht das Ende einer Etappe. Es funktioniert aber in der Regel, wenn man nach jeder Etappe ins Hauptmenü zurückkehrt und dann die nächste Etappe startet.
  
• Das GPS ist nicht nutzbar aber dem Fluss ist relativ leicht zu folgen. Wem das zu schweirig ist, kann in den Optionen "Route und Wegpunkte" einschalten. Außerdem sind weitere Funktionen freigeschaltet, mit denen man das Flugerlebnis anpassen kann.
• Das Wetter ist frei wählbar. Live-Wetter ist voreingestellt.
• Der Trip ist erst beendet, wenn Motor und Elektrik abgestellt sind und die Handbremse angezogen ist. Rolle dazu am besten auf einen Parkplatz.
• Eine LNMPLN-Datei für Little Navmap ist im Paket enthalten.
