Description
This is a work in progress trying to update and fix the scenery for David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport (KDWH)
Hooks is an airport tucked underneath the Houston bravo airspace in Spring, Texas, and close to Bush International Airport (KIAH). It's a fun little class D airport with 4 helipads, two runways, and a sea lane (One of only 5 land-locked sea lanes in the U.S.).
In the simulator Hooks had several problems that have been fixed with this scenery:
- Control tower was way too tall - Has been replaced with one at the correct height
- Taxi names incorrect - Incorrect taxi signage removed, and 3/4 of new signage is added
- Big ugly cloud shadow over the field - covered cloud shadow area with grass texture
- Missing half of the airport worth of buildings - Added the rows of hangars, fuel tanks, and many of the other buildings throughout the airfield.
- Wind sock missing - Added wind sock and ring in correct location
- No parking spots in sea lane - Added dock 1 and dock 2 parking spots.
- No parking spots on Helipads - Added Gate-H 1-4 for Helipad Parking
This is a work in progress and future revisions will be added here. In the meantime it is vastly improved from what is default in the sim.
Items on my to do list:
- Figure out a way to make sea lane water deeper
- Make runways and taxiways look worse and more weathered
- Fix various taxiway markings
- Mask over the cloud image on the ground near sea lane
- Remove incorrectly placed gas area on Ramp A
Installation:
Unzip and place into the community folder.

Thank you for making this! As a long time Spring resident, I was so happy to see this. I used to come here and watch the planes with my dad before the FAA came in and ruined all the fun. I'm looking forward to updates but it looks great as is!

Wow what a difference! Also my "homefield", incredibly well done, especially masking that cloud shadow covering big parts of the airport in the aerial photo. Many thanks for your work!

Theres still a lot to do on it, but it’s better than default for sure. It’s such a neat airport both in what it has and it’s location to Bush. I’ve been controlling there on VATSIM a bunch lately and was annoyed at all the missing buildings, big ugly shadow spot and the giant tower. So I mostly just made it to look better for me while controlling. But figured I might as well throw it on here for others. If your there a bunch real world let me know any glaring things it’s missing.
