    Pier Models - Blender/MSFS - Image 1

    Description

The sunken piers and boat-docks annoyed me enough to make a few models in Blender.

Tried normal-poly, but the models got way too large in size to be used, so here's a collection of low-poly models you can spread around in your scenery - no-one will notice the difference at more than 10ft anyway...

Only one texture is included for the planks/wood, but it can easily be swapped with whatever you want.

12 models included in the pierLP folder. You might need to swap the GUID's on these, but I'm not sure it will be a problem if you use the ones included.

Blender-file is included for easy modification.

Feel free to modify and use at own discretion. A mention would be nice, but not aquired... :-)

These are just Blender-models - not an asset-pack you can install.

When I use the Pier I LP scenery object it displays a fraction of its correct size in MSFS. It is supposed to be 75.11 meters long but displays only about twice as long as an adjacent object which is only 17.5 meters long - should be displayed about 4.3 times larger. Am I doing something wrong?

Scale it... I've used anything from 1 to 2 as a scaling factor in my sceneries to make it look "as it should" covering piers from default scenery

How do I actually use these in the scene editor?

I placed the two folders inside the PackageSources\modelLib folder, added the information to the PackageDefinitions xml file, but I can't see how to add the models to the scene.

I see the ArtProj in my list, but when I search through the models in the object library by trying to filter "pier" as many of your files are named, I am not seeing any of the files.

I'm new to SDK and scenery editing just trying to figure it out....

You have to build the ArtProj (as a normal Build) and then restart the sim to make them visible. Remember to give the modelLib a unique name for your project - don't call it just ModelLib.bgl :-)

Put the folders pierLP and texture inside
    {your project name}\PackageSources\ModelLib
and add the modellib to the XML-file inside your PackageSources folder.

Open in Blender and link the Wood_01.jpg texture to one of the planks. That should fix the problem. Not quite sure if the texture-folder in Blender is relative to the project or not, so it probably doesn't find the texture in the right folder.

Still not working, when I tried to check it by importing exported model bac to blender it said that "could not handle mesh". Don't know what's going on, but will try to figure out. :)

Does it still say Format: gITF Separate and Textures: ..\texture in the export properties in Blender?

Probably just a different folder-structure or something... :-) Just select a plank and connect the texture again in Blender.

Nothing to install. These are models you can use in your own scenery.
