Denarq Twin Beech for MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 - Image 1

    Description

This is a mod to enhance the Local Legend V: Beechcraft Model 18.
The objective of this mod is to provide a more realistic experience of this fantastic aircraft.

This mod is compatible with both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. There is a version for each MSFS edition.

    Very important:

This mod has some advanced systems like oil system and others that require very precise knowledge. You have to read the manual in order to flight with this mod. Give special attention to oil system and startup procedures.

The main aspects that are already implemented in this mod are:

    -New custom made sound set.

-New Oil system (custom code) with:

    Oil quantity (Persistent between flights).
    Oil comsumption.
    Oil leaks.
Oil temperatures and pressure that not only derive from engine calculation but also influence engine operation.
Oil tanks placed on their real location that influence flight model according to their load.

-Custom Fuel Flow variable with increased functionality over default SDK.

-New modern propeller version replacing old legacy with new behaviour.

    -New propeller featther logic.

-New advanced [FUEL SYSTEM] replacing old [FUEL]:
    New tanks usage logic
Minimum fuel pressure logic (see guide).
New booster pumps logic (see guide).
Fuel system pipes modeled with residual fuel quantity.
    New Cross-feed modeled.
Fuel consumption adjusted to more correct numbers.

    Persistent Fuel quantity

    -Introduction of "Aircraft identity"

    -New startup logic.

-New engine, landing gear and flap sounds.

    -Weight and balance redone.

-New true free castering wheel (as an option). See guide.

-Persistent engine wear with the ability to view and reset it in the cockpit
-New flight model with both air and ground handling.
-Aircraft performance tuned to much more realistic numbers
-Underthehood engine code with damage and wear associated.
-New systems modeled like oil shutters, oil bypass, cabin heat, etc.

    -Overhaul of electrical system.

-Miniflow_L  digital fuel system moddeled with all functions and alerts of real counterpart instrument.

    Flight model:
    -Much more progressive yoke response.
-Takeoffs: More stable behaviour during the runway roll. The tail wheel, if locked, holds the aircraft heading much better. While the tale is on the ground, it requires the use of differential brakes or differential throttle as described in the real manual and as reported by real Beech pilots. The tail lifts at around 40 kn as real plane and in a much more gentle way. Once tail is up, rudders get much more authority, like real plane.
-Gliding speeds and stall speeds adjusted to real values according to Beech18 Flight Handbook.
-Tuned stall behaviour that is very well described in Beech18 Flight Handbook.
-Many other small details that make each aircraft unique, such as "spongy" controls at low speed or adverse yaw.
-The landing gear behaviour has been completely revised, eliminating the bouncy characteristic.
-Cowl flaps and landing lights have drag. Cowl flaps open reduces IAS by 5 to 8 kn according to pilot reports. Landing lights is much less, probably less than 1 kn but drag is there nevertheless.
-Gliding performance adjusted to match Beech18 Flight Handbook data.

    Performance:
-Where default plane engine power is off sometimes by more than 100 HP to real values depending on situation, my engine is always within 10 to 15 HP to real engine data. This is at all manifold and RPMs combinations and all altitudes.
-Landing and takeoff distances also much closer to real performance charts. Tested at different altitudes.
-Engine overboost at low altitudes modeled. Despite this engine being rated for 36.6 manifold pressure, in reality, it is capable of delivering more than 40 at sea level. This is modeled in this mod.
-Propeller friction and thrust adjusted to match real world behaviour.
-Carburetor heat sensitivity and delta temperature adjusted to reflect real plane icing conditions. "Carb Mixt Temp" gauge in Cº (celcius).
    -Oil and Cylinder temperatures adjusted.

    Engine underground code:
(All new local variables associated with engine damage are not absolute but proportional to its operating regime.)

-Overboosting engine to more than 36.5 rated MP would lead engine wear and eventually engine damage with possible catastrophic event on that engine (kill the engine). It also rapidly increase cylinders temperatures.
-According to real plane, operating the engine at more then 1000RPMs with oil temperatures less than 40º will make the engine run rought, lead to engine wear and increase cylinders temperatures because of less efficient lubrication.
-Operating the engine with oil temperatures above 90º would lead to engine wear and at higher temperatures to engine damage with possible catastrophic event on that engine (kill the engine).
-Engine 1 minute full power and 30 minutes power is also modelled. Operating the engine above these settings for more than expected time will lead to engine wear. The counter would move backwards once we ease engine effort. Like real plane manual, 30 minutes power setting is altitude dependent.
    Sea level: 34.5MP / 2200RPM
    5000ft: 33.5MP / 2200RPM
-Operating the engine at high cylinders temperatures will lead to engine wear and if too high will give catastrophic or partial engine event.

    -Detonation modeled.

    -Rough running engine modeled.

    Oil system

This Denarq mod use a new scratch made oil system.

While default msfs sdk only allows oil temperatures and pressures and these are computed after engine calculations and therefore  they don't have a direct effect on performance, with this new system oil is treated as something with substance that exists in aircraft and impacts on how plane behaves, not only mechanically but also how it flyes.

The main items of Denarq oil system are:

-Oil quantity that is persistent between flights. You need to check and fill if necessary oil tanks prior any flight.

-Oil tanks placed on their correct real location that impacts not only oil behaviour but also aircraft  flight model according to their load.

-Oil temperature and pressure that not only derives from engine calculations but also contribute to.

-Oil consumption that match Prat&Whitney engine real numbers crossing all range of engine operation and is influenced by engine wear.

    -Oil leaks.

-Almost all instruments that are at disposal on real plane to deal with oil. Oil shutters, Oil bypass lever and oil shutoff valve. All of them with custom made code and with same functionality as in real plane.

    New modeled systems:
-Cabin heat:  In real plane, cabin heat is used not only for passengers and pilot confort but also do deice windshield. In my mod, right lever is used to switch on/off wind shield deice. Left lever is used in conjunction with the engine selector switch to resel left/right engine wear and damage.
-Persistent engine wear. There are many factors that contribute to engine wear. This engine wear can be viewed using “Gal.Reserve” and “Gal.toDestination” positions of FF gauge knob to watch engine 1 and 2 wear. This wear is persistent between flights and it can be saved when on ground and batteries are turned off. Not only bad engine use contributes to wear but there is always a constant value that represent natural engine wear independent of how we use the engine. This constant is such that engine wears 10% each 100 hours of combustion time. Linked to this wear is a lack of engine performance that starts at 95% and is obviously proportional to wear percent.
-Propeller deice has real propeller deice associated and not only a dummy animation.
-Engine now requires prime and starter boost to startup.

    Electric systems.
-Engine generators are offline bellow 1100RPM according to Beach handbook.
-NAV2, DME/ ADF and trasnponder radios now use electric energy and being on or of reflects actual power suply.
(Right now I’m starting to model new electric systems so it is at a very early stage of development.)

-New batteries: persistent voltages, voltage decay with low temperature, longer time to recharger under low temperatures, faster time de deplete its levels with low temperature.
-Almost all systems amperage changed to match real counterparts.
-Some electric circuits that didn't have any system associated were removed.

It is recommended that you delete state.cfg file before mod instalation.
    STEAM: C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight
    Simulator\SimObjects\MSCarenado_D18S\state.cfg
    MS STORE:
    C:\Users\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3
    d8bbwe\LocalCache\SimObjects\MSCarenado_D18S\state.cfg

Special note about throttles and 3rd party software like Spad.next /for more information see provided guide).
If you use these softwares to config your throttle axis, you have to set them to control localvars:
    -THROTTLE1_SET (LVAR)
    -THROTTLE2_SET (LVAR)
and their value range from 0 to 1.
In spad.next assign a Custom axis and use a rescale value.
VERY IMPORTANT: There is also a simvar THROTTLE1_SET but from simconnect. Don't use this. Use (LVAR).

According to this mod the oil in an aircraft can cool down from 100 to 30 degrees in just a about 20 seconds.

Still aside from the starwars like physics regarding cooling, the plane feels much more engaging to fly the the standard version.

For a free mod it's gold.

MSFS24: I had a very weird issue (in the previous version everything worked perfectly).
I can rotate the function on the Miniflow, but the “Add Fuel” button is not a real button and I cannot press it.
Another issue (but this could be pilot error): during a 1‑hour flight I lost the entire electrical system — all the avionics turned off.
I was unable to operate the landing gear, the radios (COM1, COM2, NAV1, NAV2, ADF), everything.
I’m very surprised because a few minutes before the shutdown both ammeters were showing normal operation.

Having access to real D18 and radial engine pilots, it appears that your MOD engines tendancy to reach very high cylinder temperature during climb is very exagerated and it not an issue at all when flying the real plane.
Morever, going past the red line shoudn't kill the engine : even if a cylinder died, the engine would be able to produce some thrust.
I understand that this is all fine tuning and nothing can be perfect. But right now the main task when flying the plane is managing the engines temperatures. That shouldn't be the case.

I will not fly the Beech D18S without this mod. It is essential in 2020! Love it.

Having a few issues with this as well, e.g fuel pump switches inoperative.
Does this mod need to be updated to be SU4 compliant perhaps.

The full pump function isn't working, and neither are some of the buttons. It's as if it's not detecting the mod?

Greetings, I installed the mod in the community folder. However, it's not working on the Miniflow screen; it doesn't show engine wear, nor the oil refill option. It's as if the mod isn't even in the community folder. Help!

Does anyone else have an issue where the free castering version always pulls hard to the left when you unlock the tail wheel? What's up with that?

Hi Alex, I left you a message on the Message Hub but you may not have seen it.
I am having trouble finding the correct keybinds for the miniflow Gallons REM/USED and ADD Fuel buttons. I have the selector knob and FULL FUEL button working.
loving your mod for the Beech 18.

Fixed !, I was reading an older PDF instructions, I hadn't replaced it with the new upgrade and having to do the reset thru the Miniflo gauge instead of the heater knob, this is one of those mods where one has to read and then re read again, several times and after many, many crashes, oh, so painful! but a lot to enjoy when everything is mastered, and when you think you have it, it bites you in the ass again ! Great work bud, congrats !

One more thing, I deleted the file and then reinstalled it and the problem persists, same if I restart engines or if I restart flight from runway with engines running, seems it is stuck with this issue, run out of options.

I have version 1.5.3, for some reason fuel pump 4 reads fail and if I try to reset engine by moving the starter selector to either engine, the cabin heat handle on the left doesn't work, no up or down, the mouse has no effect, if I turn fuel pump off, then the engine wants to die, therefore I can't switch fuel tanks, any thoughts ? thanks.

Hi what a fantastic mod & a great job, many thanks!
Just a question: in update 1.5.3 a FLIGHT_MODEL rar file with a different flight model cfg file is included. please advise what that is for & if I need to do anything with it. many thanks & kind regards, Hendrik

Hi. By default, the mod came with a steereble tail wheel. This alternative flightmodel.cfg is only if you want a free castering tail wheel. Everything remais the same. To use it, simple replace the file.

Slight problem. With the mod running my throttles don't 'animate', butI can hear the sound of them moving. Disabling the mod allows the throttles to do their thing. Am I missing something? This is in 2024
Oops! Just read the bit about throttles. LVARS? Don't do LVARS. Why the change?
