    HPG H145 & H160 Realism Mod - Image 2

    Description

This freeware module is intended to be used with HPG H-145 & H-160 helicopter as a realism enhancement mod. It presents different emergency
and unpredictable situations that real life pilots face in their daily work.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), helicopters crash at a higher rate than airplanes. The crash rate for general aircraft is 7.28 crashes per 100,000 hours of flight time. For helicopters, that number is 9.84 per 100,000 hours.

This module does not pretend to be an ultra-realistic recreation of the Airbus H-145 and H-160 helicopter systems and structural damage model. However, it aims to fill the operational failures and structural damage gap by improving the immersive simulation experience. So, now it's necessary to pay attention to the helicopter's warning and caution lights and apply actions and procedures with the pilot's best judgment if an emergency situation arises.

    List of features:

    - 100% Compatible with default HPG H145 / H160 failure system, user or mission triggered

    - Random failure event system based on Helicopter damage

    - All HPG H145 / H160 systems and failures included

    - Realistic systems failure effects on helicopter behaviour and realistic damage propagation. For example, an unextinguished engine fire will put structural integrity at risk if flight continued

    - Realistic icing effects on engines. As the H145 is not provided with any anti-ice device, flying in icing conditions will cause serious troubles ranging from reduced engines performance to engine damage from ice ingestion (FOD).

    - Accumulated Main, Tail Rotor and transmisions damage when helicopter limitations are exceeed (Torque, RPMs or Load Factor)

    - Individual element mechanical failure effect recreated including Main and Tail rotor damage or total loss

hi, does it work for mfs2024 and does it also work with Andrew's Random and everywhere missions? Does this mod work with the 500 build of the h145 and with the h160 build 82/83?

    1. Msfs2024: it should work, but it's not tested by me.
    2. Yes, it is compatible with the random missions
    3. Yes, and indeed, it does need from latest H145/H160 versions (v500/v83)

Lately I nearly can't do more than one fligt.
I usually do HEMS missions, so I take off, fly to my destination, shut down the helicopter per standard procedure and after everything is done (sometimes up to 20/30min) i try to restart the helicopter and as soon as I try to start the engines I either get an engine failure or even fire.

Odd... It should be fixed in the last update.
    I will check it today

Idk if the problem are on my side but i have several engine fire like everytime i land is there something I missed ?

If you're setting engine idle, the problem could be that the engines are moved quickly and inadvertently to OFF and then to IDLE in a quick sequence (using mouse wheel?).
If the engines are shutdown completely they will need few minutes for cold down before attempting a new start.
However, this behavior will be revised in a next build as it doesn't result very realistic tending to catch fire even after prolonged cold down periods.
    Thanks for reporting

Unfortunately, the Lvars for migrating the H-145 weight feature are not available in the H-160. It's reported to HPG but apparently they're not going to implement them for the moment.. Not sure why, perhaps waiting for the expansion version.

Happy to know you're enjoying the mod!

I have tested the h160 mod, which i have to say that is amazing how carefully you have to treat the heli for not damaging [which i had to learn how to fly again and Is challenging fun] would be nice to have an automation too for the h160 for the weights, like clicking on the tablet for passengers and automatically puts the weights on the heli.

Hi. You can modulate the probabilities by reducing the damages in the Tablet. Actually, as I mentioned, a 20% damage in all options would reflect realistic damage probs. If you set them to 10% or 5% it's very unlikely to see any failure...ever.

This said, if the failures you're experiencing are mechanical (Main/Tail Rotor Transmission / Engines related -see user Guide and check the Tablet!-) and you're mostly flying in AP mode, the problem is the HPG's AP implementation. This is a known issue reported and acknowled by the developer.

As the AP unrealistically (and WILDLY) overtorques the engines and transmissions, it is quickly killing them. And, as failures are related to those variables (in a normal scenario), failures are triggered accordingly, this is, fast.

Personally, I've extensively tested my mod with long flights (1-2 hours). So far, I have just experienced only 1 single failure in an AFCS channel in maybe 100 flight hours, which is indeed pretty realistic and without serious safety involvements.

BUT, I have almost lost the helicopter when I put it in AFCS "hands" because the unrealistic(current) implementation.
    So, my recommendation is:

    1) Read the User Guide and learn about how to best configure the mod

    2) Use AFCS with extreme care, not allowing AFCS to continually exceed TQ limits and avoiding excursions into the yellow band

    3) Fly it manually and avoid using AFCS upper modes. And yes, if you exceed the limits you'll see troubles ;)

    4) While unrealistic, from time to time check the Tablet to see where the damages are. If they're in the 20-30%, well done!, you're not mistreating the aircraft ;)

Anyway, there is a high level of configurability in the mod that allows you to find the difficulty options that best suit your taste.

Hi, I've now worked a bit more with the settings and I have to say that I'm now almost completely satisfied, the only problem I still have is that after every engine shutdown and restart the engine loses about 50 per cent of its life. and I pay very close attention to the start times, i.e. before every shutdown I wait at least 1 minute in idle and before the restart it also takes at least 5 minutes. can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I believe the problem is with the engine switches. Sometimes they switch from idle to off and idle in a quick sequence if not special care is put and a mouse wheel is used. This quick transition causes the damage.
My recommendation is to be very careful with the switches, as they're too sensitive.
I will try to improve it in a future release.

I have now started another attempt, I serviced everything first and made an approx. 18 minute round trip without exceeding a limit. Then I landed and set the engines to idle, I left them there for at least 2 minutes, then I switched everything off, after 25 minutes I switched both engines back to idle and waited another 1:30 until I switched them to flight as soon as they reached flight I lost 50% of the life of my engines. I deliberately only used the mouse buttons and not the scroll wheel to control the engines! Nevertheless I have to thank you, I love your mod :-)
