JAS 39E Gripen Flight Model Mod - Image 1

    Description

Install: Replace the cfg and FLT files in your Griffen plane folder.  If you have the marketplace version of the aircraft, the CFG files will
be encrypted, and not editable.  You can try putting this mod in the community folder, but I do not think it will load properly (my testing was unsuccesful).  With a 3rd party version, simply replace the files in the aircraft folder with the files from the mod zip file!  That will load the modifications properly.

Description: This flight model mod fixes a lot of issues with the stock flight model, namely low speed maneuverability, stall speed, stall aoa,
contact points for weapons and wheels, and engine performance characteristics.  Updates listed below:

    V1.1.5

    Flight Model:
    1. Adjusted lift coefficients to be more linear, should make takeoff and landing easier and controls a bit softer

    Aircraft Systems:
    1. Further adjusted autopilot PID values (unable to perfect this, as MSFS in-game
autopilot conflicts with MSFS FBW system, would need custom autopilot code)

    V1.1.3
Minor adjustments to airplance vertical stabilizer, FBW system, trim settings, lift/drag coefficients, and engine characteristics.

    Airplane Geometry
    1. Changed trim settings (TO trim should now set appropriately & reduced max trim angle)
    2. Changed vertical stabilizer dimensions (better mapping for MSFS flight model)

    Flight Model:
    1. Reduced model drag (should be slightly faster on TO and reach about 750 knots IAS at sea level)
    2. Decreased full flap drap (should increase acceleration at TO and initial climb performance)
    3. Increased lift slightly

    4. Changed FBW pitch rate (lowered pitch rate slightly, has smoother performance at low speed)

    Engine:
    1. Retuned fuel flow PID values
    2. Changed some engine fuel flow parameters (trying to optimize range for about 2000NM)

    V1.1.2
Minor Update.  Adjustments to wheel placement and aircraft CG and tipping points.

    Aircraft Geometry:

    1. Adjusted wheel contact points to be more in-line with aircraft model (this decreases tipping point)
    2. CG has been moved forward slightly to accommodate newer wheel placement (CG should be around 27%)

    V1.1.0
Major update!  Vastly re-tuned flight surfaces for better aerodynamic performance, flap lift/drag characteristics, aircraft speed/drag,
and engine performance.  Specific changes below!

    Flight Operations:

Plane should TO at 140ish knots at 10° AOA
Plane should land around 130 knots, full flaps, at 8 - 10° AOA

For TO, raise gear once lift is maintained and set flaps to 0 at around 200 knots
For landing, drop gear below 250 knots, and use maneuvering or speed brake to reduce speed, set full flaps below 200 knots
Plane will settle in to final approach speed at around 160 knots

Maximum speed is around 800 knots at sea level, high altitude is currently untested (needs work)

    Flight Model:
    1. Increased max achievable AOA to about 40 degrees (stall should occur below 100 knots at above 40 AOA)
    2. Changed elevator characteristics to increase pitch authority (should hit 40 AOA at lower speeds <250 knots)
    3. Reconfigured flap lift/drag characteristics to improve flight characteristics and TO/landing accuracy
    4. Increased roll reactivity at lower speeds (should be closer 150 d/s below 200knots and 210 d/s above 250 knots)
    5. Adjusted stall protection to allow for 40 degree max AOA (timer trigger is 0.5 second, so instant input won't trigger protection)
    6. Reduced FBW trim speed (trim speed was too fast, causing weird pitch characteristics at moderate speeds)
    7. Maximum attainable G should be higher at lower speeds (under 350 knots, FBW should clamp at 10G - disabling G limiter w/toggle will increase max G to 12)
    8. Engine EPR has been reduced (still might have too much pressure at higher altitudes)
    9. Reduced FBW pitch speed (should still feel responsive, but not overly so at low speeds)
    10. Reconfigured lift coefficients throughout AOA range

    Airplane Geometry:
    1. Wing root chord has been increased
    2. Htail has been reworked for better performance
    3. Engine inlet area has been increased based on engine design (also to lower EPR, still might be too high)

    Autopilot:
    1. Reconfigured AP PID values to provide better performance when in AP modes (more testing is still needed, still oscillation at higher speeds)

    V1.0.1
Two things I forgot to include in the initial release
Update Instructions: only flight_model.cfg and sound.xml were added, so you do not need to replace everything.  You can also just replace
    everything if you want.

    Flight Model:

    1. Fixed negative AOA lift coefficients (previous version had too much negative lift)

    V1:

    Flight Model:

    1. Changed aircraft lift and drag coefficients, affecting max speed performance
    2. improved instantaneous/sustained AOA
    3. refined target drag coefficients
    4. increased flap lift/drag targets
    5. redesgined FBW system, roll and pitch rates
    6. Aircraft geometry has been updated to be more reflective of the real aircraft

    Engines:

    1. Engine changed to GE F414, with improved mil power and afterburner performance
    2. Changed the PID fuel flow controller, for more realistic performance (less overshoot)
    3. Changed EPR values, to decrease performance at higher altitudes

    Model:

    1. Changed afterburner effects to change with afterburner stage

    Things that need work:

    1. Takeoff roll has too much rudder interference at low speeds, causing difficulty in keeping straight.

    2. Max achievable AOA is still too low, needs to be further refined.

    3. CFD has been enabled for the jet body, but I have not been able to get it working properly for the Vtail and Htail.  Needs to be tweaked for better CFD performance.

Could you make this MSFS 2024 compatible please

Hello from three months later! I also wanna know if its gonna be released for FS24? I've also waiting for an offical update from Deimos. Is it not updated any longer???

For which aircraft it is? I know only Deimos Griffin (Gripen) and it is available only at marketplace as far as I know.

bro? are you serious? its for gripen

@kozkarr :D lol I see you clearly did not understand my question. So let me explain. Yes I can read. Yes I see it is for Gripen. Only Gripen I know is from Deimos and it is avaialble only on the marketplace. Thats why I asked for which aircraft it is, because mod creator said, and I quote: "If you have the marketplace version of the aircraft, the CFG files will
be encrypted, and not editable. You can try putting this mod in the community folder, but I do not think it will load properly (my testing was unsuccesful)."
So if it does not work on a Gripen version from marketplace which is available only at marketplace then...? hm? :D

JAS 39E Gripen Flight Model Mod

The JAS 39E Gripen Flight Model Mod enhances the realism of the aircrafts performance by addressing various issues with the stock flight model. Key updates include adjustments to lift and drag coefficients, improvements in stall characteristics, and refinements to engine performance. Additionally, the flight control systems have been redesigned for better responsiveness. Note that installation requires replacing specific CFG and FLT files in third-party versions of the aircraft.

Final update! Fixed CFD measure points, and increased FBW sensitivity. Maximum achievable AOA is lower than previous, but flight controls are more responsive at low and high speeds. Controls should be less twitchy at high speeds (700+ knots). Autopilot requires disabling FBW manually, prior to turning on autopilot as the two systems conflict with each other. There are third party toggles that do this well.
