Welcome to Wiesbaden-Erbenheim also known as Wiesbaden Army Airfield (AAF). It is situated in the area between Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, close to Frankfurt International Airport. It is the headquarter of United States Army Europe and Africa (USAREUR-AF), seeing traffic mostly by VIP-transport Beechcraft King Airs, Cessna Citations and a few UH-60 helicopters.

History

The beginning of the airfield dates back to before the First World War. In 1910 a horse racetrack was constructed at the site and the area was used for a few flights even before 1914.

During World War II, the Luftwaffe operaterd Bf-109, Bf-110 and Fw 190 fighters. In 1948 and 1949, Wiesbaden AAF was one of the airports to be part of the Berlin Air Lift so it saw heavy usage by C-47 and C-54 transport aircraft.

During Cold War, U-2 spy planes took off from here for flights over the Soviet Union. Since then it saw usage by different squadrons mosty in the transport or support role. Today it serves as a logistigal hub in connection with the Russo-Ukrainian war.

Philosophy and Politics

I recently got aware of military actions organised from Wiesbaden Airfield that are viewed as highly controversial.  

I did not create this airfield to make any political statement or support war on either side. Quite the contrary. Along with 99% of mankind, I hope and pray for peace. In the sim we mostly recreate the world how it is, not how it should be. I enjoy the opportunity to link up with simmers from all over the world. I do understand that people affected from the conflict have strong feelings about the topic. However I kindly ask you to avoid political discussion in the comments. Thank you!

The Scenery

This scenery is the most detailed I have ever done. Tons of buildings, hundreds of cars, kilometers of fences, night lighting. The northern part of the area is currently undergoing constructions. The aircraft shelters are no longer used as such and partly taken down. Everything seems to be about cars right now. The taxiways are no longer usable for aircraft and have been turned into streets.

Installation

Unzip the two folders into your community folder. You should have the UK2000 and FSDG-library installed free from the marketplace. Some of the objects are from World Updates. Usually it's only very few, so you don't miss too much, if you don't have them all.
