Description
Introduction
FreeRAAS is a completely free Runway Awareness & Advisory System built for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Designed as an easy to use Qt-based desktop app, it provides realistic runway callouts and position awareness using real-world OpenStreetMap (OSM) data. Currently, the following callouts are supported:
- "Caution, Short Runway"
- ... feet available / remaining
- "On Runway"
- "On Taxiway"
- "Too High / Deep Landing"
- "Unstable"
- "Approaching Runway ..."
- "Long Landing!"
- "Flaps, Flaps" (new)
Keep in mind that FreeRAAS is still in an early development stage, so you might encounter occasional bugs. If you do, please leave a comment or report the issue so it can be fixed. If FreeRAAS isn't able to launch, you might have to install Visual C++ Redistributables. You can download them here: vc_redist.x64.exe
Compatibility
FreeRAAS is compatible with all aircrafts and all airports (assuming that they are well-supported in OSM).
Customizability
You can enable or disable any callout directly in the GUI, adjust the short-runway threshold, and save or load different profiles for various aircraft or situations.
Installation
Simply unzip the file and launch FreeRAAS.exe. If you want real HoneyWell RAAS sounds (like the ones in the video), you can download this RAAS sounds mod and copy the audio files into the Audio directory.
Libraries / License
FreeRAAS uses the following libraries:
- SQLite3 (Public Domain)
- SoLoud (ZLib/LibPNG)
- SimConnect SDK
- Map data from OpenStreetMap (ODbL 1.0)
- QT (LGPL 3.0)
FreeRAAS is completely free, developed in my spare time.
If you enjoy using it and would like to support further development, you can consider buying me a coffee or making a small donation :)

Improved GUI: The interface is now resizable Optimized Callouts: Fixed an issue where callouts were triggered too frequently Enhanced Scan Radius: Improved scanning precision and added a GUI option to adjust the scan radius Recommendation: For airlines, a scan radius between 65m–85m is ideal depending on airport size, for smaller aircrafts 15m is a good value
