San Diego Ramona (KRNM) - Image 1

    Description

Ramona airport (ICAO:KRNM) is a public airport is 40 minutes from downtown San Diego and the beach in California. The airport is mostly used for general aviation, the California Department of Foresty and United States Forest Service (USFS) jointly operate a fire attack base.

As all of my MSFS mod, this small scenery is made from a pilot-eyes perspective. In real, I flew there several time from Montgomery, for pattern training and visit the Plus One Club house. I'm an amateur scenery developer. This mod is made with 99% of MSFS default objects library and feature massive number of details all around the platform. More than 600 objects have been added to the default scenery.

    Features

    • All airport buildings have been replaced: hangars, FBO's, Air Attack Base, Classic Rotors museum, all external fences and gates, fuel island, executive hangar, airport beacon...
    • All generic taxiway signs replaced by handcrafted new objects.
    • All new and very specific taxiway signs (look a the blue one at the Air Attack Base)
    • (new) Selectable static aircraft ON/OFF. Choose if you want the 3 Cal Fire static aircraft (C-130, S-2T, helicopter S70) on the main ramp by launching a .batch file. It's a switch. Same for other static aircraft at Ramona to avoid overlapping Ai injected traffic (for example with Say Intentions)

. For more info, see readme.txt in the folder "vbcorp-airport-krnm-ramona"

    • Adjustement of all taxiway lines and texture around taxiways and runway
    • FBO's Chuck Hall Aviation, CruiseAir Aviation and Pacific Exec Aviation rebuild
    • Replacement of 90% autogen buildings by MSFS Library. Very few are the AI autogenerated buildings. All others have been replaced by a more appropriate one from the MSFS library (see remark below).
    • 600+ objects to create life: objects from library but also handmade signs and banner on buildings. Caution: due to the vaste amount of detail, this scenery may impact your fps.
    • Full update of the Cal Fire ramp, for the residency of a new Cal Fire Tanker C130 Hercules + Helicopter S76i): new Phos Chek tanks and tub
    • Custom made Control Tower build by BullfrogSim.
    • Custom made static Cal Fire S2T Airtanker (#70 and #71), C-130 Hercules Airtanker (#22), OV-10 Air Tactical (#330) and Sikorsky S-70i Firehawk (#609) by Jeremy U. 100% customized for Ramona. A BIG THANKS to him! Check his awesome professional scenery of Hemet (KHMT) at https://secure.simmarket.com/flyin-j-simulations-hemet-ryan-khmt-msfs-(fr_19315).phtml
    • Reveal of all helipads (including the north helipad not open to pub ;) reserved for Air Attack Base
    • Reveal of Segmented Circle/Windsock south side close to CruiseAir
    • Reveal of Compass Rose
    • Replacement of windsocks
    • Replacement of PAPI (2 lights, P2L)
    • Night light
    • No extra library or depedencies required.
    • (MSFS2024) Skid marks and cracks are now visible on runway. Caution starting with version 3.1, you need to activate two folders in your Community. "vbcorp-airport-krnm-ramona" is the first one and don't change the name of the second "zzz-vbcorp-airport-krnm-ramona".
    • (MSFS2024) Remove the extra generic windsock
    • Add several new parking spots and starting position all around the field

History of the airport and background

In 1943 the U.S. Navy built a small, dusty airstrip at what is now the Ramona Airport. In 1956, the facility was conveyed to San Diego County and the airport has now grown to become the aviation center for community service to San Diego's inland and mountain communities. The Ramona Airport is the third busiest facility in the County’s system.

The Ramona Air Attack Base is located in the CAL FIRE San Diego Unit and was established in 1957 by the then California Division of Forestry, making it the oldest Air Attack Base in the Department’s system. In 1960, the US Forest Service set up and operated from Ramona, separate from CDF, until 1966 when the agencies integrated and Ramona became a jointly operated base. Ramona responds to an average of 450 calls per year. On average, the base pumps 850,000 gallons of retardant a year. Ramona has a possible peak output of 250,000 gallons of retardant each day. The base’s direct protection area encompasses over 1.4 million acres for CAL FIRE, 300,000 for the US Forest Service, and covers all of San Diego County.

Uncomplicated airspace, available services, ideal climate and proximity to North County business and recreation centers make Ramona Airport an ideal destination for work or pleasure. Serving every type of aircraft from home-built experimental to corporate jets, the Ramona Airport is home to a fully staffed air traffic control tower, three full-service Fixed Base Operators (FBOs) (Pacific Exec Aviation, Chuck Hall Aviation and CruiseAir Aviation) an avionics center, an aircraft service center, nine aviation businesses, a full-time airport manager and the world's only helicopter museum with operational helicopters (Classic Rotors).

How to install? Unzip the file into your Community folder. Keep the folder structure from the zip (\AirportServices \ContentInfo, \MaterialLibs, \scenery, layout.json and manifest.json at the root directory). Once installed go to KRNM as usual, the scenery is overlayed over the existing default one.

If you love the San Diego area, you should also consider my other sceneries:

    Remarks for MSFS2020

    • You need to have World Update II (USA) installed. As the main building behind the tank of the Air Attack Base, as well as long hangars on west side, are building from Friday Harbor (KFHR) free scenery from Microsoft/Asobo.
    • A big thank you to Bullfrogsim for allowing me to use his fully customized control tower!
    • A big thank you to Jeremy U. for the static Cal Fire aircraft (C-130, S-2T, S76, Bronco)!

As Vincent knows, I walk here daily, and it's where I've begun my flight training. It's a marvel how well he's recreated this wonderful little airport! The updates are darn near real-time with all of the changes at the Cal Fire ramp! Amazing work! This shouldn't be free!

The textures of this hangar are in the zip for years ;) I've just checked they are in the 4.1 zip. Can you test with ONLY my KRNM scenery activated in your Community?

I did try with ONLY KRNM in my Community folder. Now it was just OK. There is a conflict some where, aren´t there? Or is there another possible rason?

Hard to reply from here. If my KRNM works fine when standalone and not when your Community is all activated, there's a conflict with something in your Community ;)

Thanks! You landed your Skycrane in the CalFire which is currently a construction area ;) The scenery is in-between two states. I don't have recent info on the status of the CalFire apron currently replaced by part of the transient apron at the tower.

"Oh? You mean the v3.1 or this one means "this freeware"? Do you mind making a test with only my KRNM scenery in you community active? Is it on MSFS2020 or MSFS2024?"

EDIT: Figured it out, I still had one of your older versions in my community folder (the one with the "fix" file). Sorry for my mistake.

That's weird and yet, not reported by anyone else. For testing, can you empty your SceneryIndexes folder (full of .dat files that are recreated at every launch). Mine is in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryIndexes

I'm getting some doubled up items with this version. A couple of hangar names, wind socks, and some car parking stripes.

    - Static C130, S-2T and S70 Cal Fire aircraft removable via batch file (Toggle-Calfire-On-Off.bat) - Static aircraft on parking spot or potentially overlapping Ai traffic removable via another batch file (Toggle-Static-On-Off.bat) - Add 2x new static Van's RV8 - Add Dr Pepper vending machine - Fix T marking spot too bright - Fix H Helipad too bright - Fix Aeromechanix hangar sign The folder "vbcorp-airport-krnm-ramona" contains two utility scripts (.bat) designed to manage static aircraft visibility at the KRNM airport scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS). ## Purpose These tools allow you to quickly toggle specific static aircraft on or off, helping to prevent conflicts with AI traffic at starting positions or simply to customize your ramp environment. ## Example (MSFS should not be started) If you want to remove the 3 Cal Fire aircraft (C130, S-2T and S70 helicopter) run once "Toggle-Calfire-On-Off.bat". The batch will display a status "visible" or "not visible". Relaunch if you change you mind. Same for regular static other aircraft that could be on startup position for Ai traffic. ## The Scripts - Toggle-Calfire-On-Off.bat: - Manages the visibility of the three Cal Fire assets located on the main Cal Fire ramp (positions 1, 2, and 3): - C130 - S-2T - S70 Helicopter - Toggle-Static-On-Off.bat: - Manages static aircraft located at MSFS starting positions. - Note: This does not remove all static aircraft in the scenery; it specifically targets aircraft that may occupy an MSFS AI Traffic starting position. ## Instructions 1. Close MSFS: Ensure Microsoft Flight Simulator is completely shut down before running these scripts. 2. Execute: Locate the script in your scenery folder and launch/double-click it. - If the static aircraft are currently active (.bgl), they will be deactivated (.off). - If the static aircraft are currently inactive (.off), they will be activated (.bgl). 3. **Verify**: The script will display a success message indicating the new state of the files. 4. Launch MSFS.
