Boeing 747-8 Aer Lingus (No Text Mirroring) - Image 1

    Description

Now Works in Sim Update 2.0

Presenting the Boeing 747-8 in Aer Lingus Colours. Aer Lingus owned three 747-100 between 1971 and 1995, flying transatlantic routes between the US and Dublin.

Thankfully, there is *no mirroring* on this 747 due to the placement of the Aer Lingus wordmark below the windowline, so shout out to Aer Lingus for having the foresight to anticipate this. I still had to compromise a little, placing the wordmark slightly lower than it appeared on the real plane, and some other bugs with the texture (most notably, the front cargo door flipping the colours) are still noticeable, but they are relatively minor.

I also experimented with some weathering effects so let me know what you think of them.

The beautiful Aer Lingus 747 livery is now all ghost white. Is this what MFS meant when 'liveries may not work as intended.'

Hi, it sounds like you're still on the old version of the mod. The updated 2.0 version should work as intended. If not, let me know and I'll see if I can get to the bottom of what's going on.

With today's update I am curious if they fixed the mirroring issue. Every 747-8 livery in my hanger went blank, including this one. The only exception being anything on the extreme bottom or on the engines themselves. I don't know if your update is a reaction to the MSFS update. Another odd thing I noticed in the update is that text seems to be mirrored on everything, but only at a distance. This isn't just air traffic, it happens with your own plane if you zoom out. At a distance all text is mirrored and as you zoom in you can see it change as you get close enough. So either MSFS fixed the issue or created a whole new one. Either way it probably means 747 livery creators are going to be busy. I really appreciate your creativity and hard work on these, thanks for sharing your talent!

Just a reaction to the update. Doesn't appear that there's any fix for the mirroring in the update. All they have really done is combine certain textures onto a single sheet, meaning that every livery where those textures are separate won't work anymore. On top of this, there's a new "Aviators Club" livery Asobo have put out which has unmirrored text, but it appears that text is baked into the model, rather than a texture that can be edited.

As for the distance thing, I haven't noticed it, but there was always that issue where AI planes would be mirrored from a certain distance out. If that is now happening to user aircraft as well that would really suck.

One thing I picked up since my last comment is that the mirrored text at distance on the player's airplane may be related to your graphics settings. This weekend both MSFS and my Nvidia software got updated. Somehow updating the graphics driver and software created an "optimized" profile. Basically it set every graphics option at the bare minimum or slightly above. This came as a surprise because I have a brand new gaming laptop, and its able to run everything at ultra without breaking a sweat. Once I returned everything back to my previous high level settings, the mirroring seems to have stopped. If anything this may provide an insight into the mirroring issue. It seems every plane is mirrored until you get close enough and if weren't for the low settings I never would have noticed. Perhaps this might be useful to somebody (with way more computer expertise than I do) figure out a solution to the issue.

I considered it, but it will just end up getting mirrored I'm afraid

I can enter a reg myself. Which does the job.

Again. Thanks so much for this livery.
