Douglas TBD Devastator - Image 1

    Description

Perhaps not as popular as all the others but it seen its fair share of action. It is what it is and its not the fastest of the lot. But its a fun plane to cruise around includes 2 liveries, wing fold and canopy works as well and its fuel consumption is minimal.  And it's free.

    Have fun!

The Douglas TBD Devastator was an American torpedo bomber of the United States Navy. Ordered in 1934, it first flew in 1935 and entered service in 1937. At that point, it was the most advanced aircraft flying for the Navy and possibly for any navy in the world. However, the fast pace of aircraft development quickly caught up with it, and by the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor the TBD was already outdated.

The Devastator performed well in early battles, most notably in the Battle of Coral Sea, but earned notoriety for a catastrophic performance during the Battle of Midway in which 41 Devastators recorded zero torpedo hits with only six surviving to return to their carriers. Vastly outclassed in both speed and maneuverability by the Mitsubishi Zero fighters they faced, most of the force was wiped out with little consequence except to distract the Zeros from the SBD Dauntless dive bombers that sank four carriers and a heavy cruiser. Although much of the Devastator's dismal performance was later attributed to the many well-documented defects in the US Mark 13 torpedo, the aircraft was withdrawn from frontline service after Midway, being replaced by the Grumman TBF Avenger.

Love it. Amazing for a free aircraft. I got a scary oscillation on when I flew too fast but I'd imagine that's probably accurate to the real thing. A lot of fun.

    Interesting choice.
The rear seat texture didn't download with the package...the bottom texture colour doesn't extend to the bottom of the folded wings.

Best WW2 plane, out there today, weather payware, or freeware. I have not even seen ANY payware, that has as many, details, and features, as this work of art, I made a video, to highlight, your attention to detail, and your superb craftsmanship, Thanks,,https://youtu.be/xRMg7paq5WM?si=nKlAT8LGVhw3ZlaT

    Junkers JU87 Stuka Dive Bomber

    Junkers JU87 Stuka Dive Bomber

The Junkers Ju 87 or Stuka (from Sturzkampfflugzeug, "dive bomber") was a German dive bomber and ground-attack aircraft. Designed by Hermann Pohlmann, it first flew in 1935. The Ju 87 made its combat debut in 1937 with the Luftwaffe's Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War of 1936–1939 and served the Axis in World War II from beginning to end (1939–1945). The aircraft is easily recognisable by its inverted gull wings and fixed spatted undercarriage. Upon the leading edges of its faired main gear legs were mounted ram-air sirens known as Jericho trumpets [de], which became a propaganda symbol of German air power and of the so-called Blitzkrieg victories of 1939–1942, as well as providing Stuka pilots with audible feedback as to speed. The Stuka's design included several innovations, including automatic pull-up dive brakes under both wings to ensure that the aircraft recovered from its attack dive even if the pilot blacked out from the high g-forces.
