Fix terrain spike visible from Adelaide YPAD - Image 1

    Description

This mod removes the terrain spike scenery bug which is very prominent when flying around Adelaide, South Australia, and especially when flying to or from YPAD.

The spike is actually located in Kangaroo Island, but vanishes when you get close, making it quite hard to track down.

To use this simply extract into your Community directory.

See also bug report on MSFS forum:

    !!!TOP TIP!!!

Maybe you are not enjoying the red wash / red tint that is all over Adelaide?

Unfortunately I haven't found a way to permanently mod it away, but you can easily turn if off for a single MSFS session.

    1. From general options enable developer mode.
    2. Start a flight anywhere
    3. From the developer menu at the top go to Debug -> Terrain menu and then select the option "Disable TIN color correction"
    4. Exit devmode and then exit the flight
    5. Go back to the world map and then plan the flight you wanted.
    6. This is completely safe, no permanent change is made. The colours will be fixed for this session of the sim, when you restart it then it will be back to normal and you will need to follow the procedure again.

Appears to have been fixed with SU5, at least for me the artifact has disappeared with and without PG turned on.

    Anyone else confirm?

    What I know about this.

I tried fixing this for FS2024 believing I would fix this in 10 minutes. I was able to locate the anomoly by estimating its location and then created a polygon around that area. When I loaded into the sim and spawned into YPAD I opened the SDK and clicked on my polygon. I was instantly transported to it and there it was! For a split second I could see it up close before it disappeared. I moved my polygon to where I saw it and repeated the process until I had it's exact location. I then tried terrain flattening. Failed. I then laid a terraforming profile down with a rectangle. Failed. I added an exclusion rectangle. Failed. I then sunk the whole fkn island beneath the waves. FAILED. WTF. I deleted my rolling cache. Failed. I deleted all buildings in that area as I read somewhere that it might be a TIN or LOD issuse. Failed. Whatever it is, my skills with the SDK are not enough. I will keep my project files saved as I have nailed down its precise location. DM me if anyone has any suggestions.

Just noticed the return of the dreaded spike!!

Can anyone else confirm its back? Still trying to work out if its a problem on my end and needing to update things.

EDIT: Im flying from Mt Gambier to Adelaide and noticed it as I've started approaching the Coorong region, as I fly closer its disappeared. Could this be a distance thing?

    Hi everyone,
I just installed the SU14 update and the "spike" is no longer showing up for me, even without using this (wonderful) fix now from RampagingWombat.
Can anyone verify that it is now fixed by Asobo via SU14?
    Thanks.
