    Description

    In the foothills of the North Georgia mountains, surrounded by hiking trails, trout streams, breweries, and all manner of outdoor activities, is the Gateway to the Appalachians: the town of Suches.  The mountains cleverly unveil many attractions, but few as serene as GA87 - High Valley Airpark on the grounds of Kennedy Creek Resort.

    The 2,000 ft 02/20 grass runway offers a smooth and inviting escape from the bustle of typical airports.  Although the well-maintained grounds are welcoming to GA planes, bush planes and cubs are exceptionally suited for the grass runway and taxiways.

    Located within a 30 minute flight from Atlanta, Tennessee and North Carolina, High Valley Airpark is a perfect location for pilots to get away and grab a meal at the tavern, stay overnight at Kennedy Creek Resort in one of their spacious pine cabins, or pitch a tent and sleep on the grass apron.

    GA87 also hosts regular fly-in events, where pilots from all over can come to meet and take part in aerial games and activities like bomb the bullseye.

    The rolling green hills are host to farms and livestock, but are also home to wildlife such as white-tailed deer and black bears.

    Come fly the sweet mountain air of the Appalachians at High Valley Airpark.  As the locals say... Suches life!

    Custom Weather Preset

    This addon contains a custom weather preset designed specifically for GA87.  This preset is automatically available when this addon is placed in your Community folder.

    • GA87 - Suches Life: This weather preset adds a thin layer of broken, low-hanging clouds to the High Valley hills.  Based on actual live weather in the area, the cloud layer adds a level of melancholy that is most stunning during Autumn sunrise flights.  Rising above the mist, pilots will see mostly clear skies, and sparsely-populated fog in the valley.

    How to Install

    This download contains two versions of GA87 High Valley Airpark: one for MSFS 2020 and one for MSFS 2024.  Make sure to install the correct version for your simulator.

    • To install for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020:
      • Make sure that the most up-to-date dependencies are correctly installed in your MSFS 2020 Community folder
      • Download this scenery
      • Open the downloaded zip file
      • Open the 2020 folder
      • Move the noticalmyles-airport-ga87-high-valley subfolder directly to your MSFS 2020 Community folder
    • To install for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024:
      • Make sure that the most up-to-date dependencies are correctly installed in your MSFS 2024 Community folder
      • Download this scenery
      • Open the downloaded zip file
      • Open the 2024 folder
      • Move the noticalmyles-airport-ga87-high-valley subfolder directly to your MSFS 2024 Community folder

    Very nice airport Myles.
    (For those who run live weather : you might want to remove the weather preset from the add-on or add an ".OFF" extension to the weather folders or file (noticalmyles_ga87_suches_life.wpr) so it does not activated every time you load this airport). (If you want option to run the weather, just move the weather file to the 2024 or 2020 weather presets folder and change to it for any scenario/flight if you wish whenever you want).

    No rush on this. An update is not difficult. Best would be recompile the add-on without the weather stuff and add the weather preset as a separate part or folder so still in the DL but not in the add-on itselt. If that makes sense. That would allow the end user to have the choice to use or not use the weather preset.

    Excellent scenery, I made a video, to highlight your attention-to-detail, and your superb craftsmanship. I just bought the kitfox, and the Freedom Fox, a week ago, and I think, my problem, with take-off & landing, is that I have to add a lot of weight.     Such a gorgeous little airport in a beautiful part of the U.S. You did a great job capturing the essence of this place. The area where all five states converge is such a spectacular place to fly as well as the perfect place to ride. Last summer I drove my new Goldwing through that whole region of America and it was simply awesome, I'll remember it for the rest of my life. Wish we had more little air strips in the same region as this one is, low and slow in the Sting S4 or something similar is the way to go when flying through this terrain. Keep up the outstanding work!

    Thank you for the kind words, review, and for sharing your story, JockoFlocko76! Appalachian roads on a Goldwing look like a lot of fun! I'm fortunate to live within a couple hours from GA87 and visited it recently. It does have a lot of character in real life; I'm glad to hear some of its charm carries over in this addon.

    There aren't a lot of air strips in this part of the US, or scenery addons either. I recently released NC08 https://flightsim.to/file/81643/nc08-tusquittee-landing-airport, which is a similar soft field airstrip about 20 minutes north of GA87 (going low and slow). I plan on developing more in this area as well, time permitting.

    Hi Propblur, all of the custom assets for GA87 have now been re-worked to prevent flickering, and to be a bit more efficient. Check out version 1.0.1 for the update. Hopefully that can bring your 4 star rating up to a 5! :D Thanks again
