The burgers are on the grill at the Amboy Cafe. Fly in for the best tasting burgers, fries and shakes on the route - route 66 that is. Stay to explore the old buildings and cabins but be careful. Some say the old motel is haunted.

Amboy is half way between Barstow and Needles in the eastern desert region of California on the famous Route 66 highway. Amboy originated in 1858 as a mining camp then as a service point for the railway in the 1880's. It grew into a popular stopover for travellers when Route 66 was constructed in 1926 between Chicago and Los Angeles. When the interstate highway bypassed Amboy in 1973 Amboy began to decline. Today only the Cafe and Post Office are open.

You will need sharp piloting skills to land on the narrow unmaintained dirt runways of Amboy Field which used to service the town in the 1940's and 50's.
