Description
KVLD Valdosta Regional Airport
All models including two open hangars are handcrafted, along with hand drawn taxiway lines and all ramp/apron markings. The models may not resemble the actual buildings due to a zoom limitation in Google Earth and limited street view from Google Maps.
Valdosta Regional Airport (IATA: VLD, ICAO: KVLD, FAA LID: VLD) located three miles (6 km) south of Valdosta Georgia. Owned by the Valdosta-Lowndes County Airport Authority and is for public use. The airport covers 760 acres (310 ha) with plenty of space to expand if needed. Mostly used for general aviation, but is served by Delta Connection CRJ-700 with daily service to Atlanta. It has the third longest runway in Georgia, excluding military installations. The airport offers free parking, I assume for aircraft.
Opened in 1940, it was taken over by the United States Army Air Corps in 1941 for use during World War II. The airport was used as an auxiliary airfield for Moody Army Field. It was returned to the city at the end of the war.
