    Understanding Affiliations & Base Products

Understand how affiliations and base products work to improve discoverability.

On Flightsim.to, every addon belongs to a Category (e.g., Liveries, Aircraft, Scenery) — but many addons also require a specific Base Product to work. We call this the addon's Affiliation. For example, a livery for the PMDG 737 requires you to own the PMDG 737. That makes "PMDG 737" the affiliation. A cockpit mod for the Fenix A320 is affiliated with the Fenix A320, and so on.

    Think of it this way:

    • Category = what kind of addon it is
    • Affiliation = what product it's made for

This distinction is powerful because a single base product like the PMDG 737 can have liveries, cockpit mods, sound packs, and utility addons across many different categories — and the affiliation system ties them all together.

    Browsing by Affiliation

Each affiliation has its own dedicated page that shows all addons across every category made for that product. This is the fastest way to find everything available for a specific aircraft or product.

On the affiliation page you can:

    • Filter by category — e.g., show only liveries or only sound packs for that product
    • Sort and search just like any other browse page
    • See at a glance how many addons exist and which simulators are supported

You can also browse all available affiliations on the Browse Base Products page, accessible via the More dropdown in the navigation. There you can search by name or keywords and sort by popularity or alphabetically.

    Following Base Products

If you own a specific aircraft or product, you can follow its affiliation to build your personal product library:

    1. Navigate to the affiliation's page
    2. Click the Follow button
    3. The product is now saved to your Followed Base Products library

Your followed products are accessible from your user menu → Followed Base Products. This gives you a searchable overview of all the products you own or are interested in, with quick links back to each affiliation page.

    Where You'll See Affiliations

    • Addon Detail Page — The affiliation appears in the Requirements card in the sidebar, showing which base product is needed
    • Search & Category Pages — Use the base product filter to narrow results to a specific affiliation
    • Your Library — Followed base products appear in your personal Followed Base Products page

    Tips

    • Follow the products you own — It creates a personal reference library and makes it easy to jump straight to relevant addons
    • Use affiliation pages for discovery — Instead of searching "PMDG 737 livery," just visit the PMDG 737 affiliation page and filter by Liveries
    • Check the Requirements card before downloading — Make sure you own the required base product, or the addon won't work
